fewer and fewer people are falling for the "sponsored themes" that end up with a half dozen or more links off every page. But hey, go for it. :)

I actually do pretty well with them

my next one is only going to have one link, but almost every single one I download from theme.wordpress.net has those links, and I always keep them

You have to watch closely. I have seen some theme designers pull some seriously stupid shit in their code to try to get themselves extra links off, from gimicking the sidebars to adding their site as an archive in your headers. One guy polluted all the RSS feeds to point to his theme design page, another one relinked all the wordpress links to his plugin page.

Since 90% of the themes out there are just a slightly modified version of the 2 default themes, it isn't like anyone has a real and valid copyright on them anyway.

wordpress actually suggests that you use their default themes as a start point

I could care less to be honest, it isn't like I, or anyone downloading a ton of themes, is using them for quality blogs anyway

when I want a quality blog, I buy a custom theme, when I am setting up splogs I download whatever looks nice from themes.wordpress.net and just throw it up and let it go
