How can these fuckers advise people on investing? They are getting a little play on AOL.
Want to be a porn mogul? Investment firm to hold monthly meetings to attract, uh, capital
Investment conferences are usually pretty dull stuff. A dozen or so execs from small firms each get 20 minutes to stand up at the podium, run through a Power Point presentation and try to convince investors to throw some cash their way. Many investment banks hold them, often specializing in a particular sector.
Now the porn industry is getting what may be its first investment conference. Investment firm AdultVest has announced (http://money.aol.com/news/articles/_a/adultvest-set-to-begin-monthly-investor/n20080227174409990069) that it will schedule a series of ongoing meetings to bring potential investors together with business opportunities in the so-called adult entertainment sector. This represents what may be the first go-to gathering for investors to choose from a variety of adult-oriented businesses. In short, here's your opportunity to be a porn mogul.
These two-day events will no doubt be a little spicier than the usual investment conference fare -- and in a sign of how popular AdultVest expects them to be, the firm will hold them every month. The press release also promises that, as the popularity of these meetings grows, they will be held in new venues like, "hotel meeting rooms, private estates, and private members clubs."

These guys contacted me when they first opened their doors. They knew nothing about the legalities of the adult biz and didnt have a lawyer. They were taking client funds and investing into businesses that could be considered illegal in some states and were not doing the necessary legal checks.
I just hope in the 2 or so years they are gotten their shit together and has hired and attorney that knows the industry.

I've been tracking these guys since they launched. I spoke with them about the possibility of getting funded, early on in their launch, for expansion.
Long story short, it boils down to: give us $5K or $10K, and we'll put you in contact with money people. After 43 years, by BS filter is pretty good, and it was flashing Bright Red.
So I took a sit back and watch approach. The industry desperately needs something like this. Not only for development funding, like the non-adult world has, but also to give it another shield of protection from being crushed. Much like the hotel industry, if all the hotels offer adult in room, it's difficult to crush that business. Big money (and many religious backers) are backing those hotels.
If we can have enough "legit" mutual fund backing, it will be tough for the religious right to get a leg up on witch hunting.
So I've been waiting for more than 2 years now for the story of "Wow! I used adultvest to build my adult business, and now I'm fat and giggly!"
................still waiting.

Doesn't that statement violate some kind of lawyer/client privilege somehow?
Even as just a lowly programmer, I would not openly identify a client or even a potential client in what could be taken as a disparaging comment like that.
You sure you're a lawyer? Like one who passed the bar? Or are you more like one of them radio talk show host lawyers?

Before you jump, try asking a few questions. Your statements would be correct if they had contacted me for legal advice. They wanted me to give them a list of my clients so they could solicit them for business/investments.
They never asked to retain me nor did they offer. Matter of fact they wanted me to sign a NDA. Attorneys dont sign NDAs. The conversation did not go beyond a "Hi, can you tell me who your clients are?" and me asking why? And asking who their attorney was. No attorney-client relationship was established.
Sorry if you find my comments to be disparaging or that I lack professionalism.

Sorry, but I don't know about anyone else around here, but that would be enough for me to keep my mouth shut.
People come to me all the time to ask about if I can do something or know someone who can. I do not talk about it unless I have specifically been given permission. I don't sign NDAs either. I assume an NDA, I don't need the paper.
But thats just me.

They wanted you to sign an NDA so you could give them a lead list?
For guys wanting a 5K -10K fee to hook you up with investment.... well they look questionable to say the least.
All Ive seen is PR every month that really says nothing about them until today.
Of course if I was out there looking at how the search engines were indexing my site and found this thread highly indexed out of the blue... Id come over and post a counter spin comment under a nick name too.
Until I see where they have scored some major investment for someone we all recognize then I will continue to cast a curious eye.
I wonder what their affiliation with Fre TV is ???
I have never heard of these guys til now, is this for real?

I agree wholeheartedly with this sentiment. As best as I can understand, their coffers were empty, save the initial organizing revenues....then, around Internext Florida, they were suddenly flush with 5 million, which was promptly invested into fyre TV.
Which sounds suspiciously like another porn TV box service that grew from a failed processor a few years ago........but that's speculation.
But the 5 mill seemed to go through Adultvest, and into Fyre TV like you know what through a goose.
As I have repeatedly said......I HOPE adultbiz is a legit operation, as we desperately need that in our industry. But I'll take the same approach as Gonzo.
