I just recently gave my daughter my laptop. I reformatted it first. Did a clean install and added a few surfing filters. I then explained to her the consequenses of going to sites that we dont put in her bookmark. She is also not allowed to email or chat under any circumstanes.

If an adult is not around she is not allowed to be online nor is she allowed to use it in her room all alone.

You can do a few things. (1) Download the free version of Spybot Search n' Destroy, AdAware, or even Microsoft's Antispyware programs, run them, and they should remove any spyware programs that have been installed on your machine and steer you towards those sites. (2) Purchase parental control software that will allow you to monitor the websites your children access (whether purposely or otherwise) and you can set the security levels yourself to where they can and can't go.

There are programs that you can put on your computer like netnanny. they have filters you can use. I hope this helps.

What I'm saying is it's every parent's responsibility to govern their children in potentially dangerous environments. I monitor her the same when when she watches television as well.

There are a lot of programs that are useful and can help but the best thing is to password protect and set up different users and have theirs monitored by one of the programs that allow you to block content. If you need some specific suggestion please hit me up on ICQ
