The entry into this business required about as much talent and about as much capital. We started emphasizing quantity over quality and we made no efforts to control our output. We completely ignored the first rule of success in entertainment, “leave them wanting more”

We inundated the market with the cheapest product we could shit out, comps, sell throughs, catalog content, then we repackaged all the same content and sold it over and over. And I’m not talking just companies that specialized in bargain basement porn, I’m talking companies that wanted to be known for their quality.

We let anyone who could hold a camera proclain him/herself a “director” and we assumed that just because some chick who dropped out of high school could suck cock then she could be a director.

And for ten years we dumped this shit on the market at the rate of ONE THOUSAND releases a MONTH. That’s 250 porn videos a WEEK.

Now many of those companies have come and gone and video companies struggle to survive in a market where predatory distributors will take as long as possible to pay you, hoping to starve you out so that they don’t have to pay at all.

All of this leaves a LOT of porn with no owner and no one with any money to protect the copyright.

As always Mike South has something thought provoking to say whether you agree with him or not.

This is yet another angle on "there's too damned much free porn". And it does bring up a point I never really thought of. Just how much shit has been shot over the last decade that is now out there being passed around with no one protecting the copyright? I'd guess tons upon tons. Much of it just a forgotten failed business model. Others might be aware, but dont want to throw good money after bad to try to enforce the copyright.

If you shoot exclusive content yourself, you know how much effort it takes to watch for it to show up in unauthorized places and then jump thru the legal hoops to smack people around with DMCA. What percent of porn is out there free range now unprotected free to be traded at will??

Cost of entry has killed us on everything by getting so low.

exactly, I know plenty of guys that went belly up, yet sold their catalog to other companies, therefore someone still owns it all

but what about all those companies that didn't take that last deal and just closed up shop and don't even care anymore

And the moment you start talking quality the buyer tells you a gut in Bulgaria will do it for 1/3 of what it needs.

So the sponsor then spends 3 times what he should on traffic.

Not 100% true in most cases but pretty close to the mark.

I agree with Hell puppy to look for your stolen shit would be a full time job and then sending a dmca and then staying on top on them. Unless someone gives me a heads up. I dont go looking for it, I have better things to do.

As they say, necessity it the mother of invention. There are now a a few places where you can outsource that task. Since that's all they do, they're very efficient at it, and can therefore do the job for a very reasonable fee.
