Thanks to the positive input regarding the art and toons I've been posting all over I got a series of great opportunity breaks and some big time wisdom. I'll be needing a marketing guru soon so who is the guru of guru's round these parts?

I'm not sure if I can claim to be the guru of gurus, but I have been in marketing since 1985.

1985 - 2001 in the toy and gift business.
2001 - Present in the online world in adult and mainstream.

My past mainstream corporate experience includes designing and developing toys, retail packaging, a $1 million national TV campaign with a New York Ad Agency, and making deals with Toys R Us, Walmart, Target, KB Toys, etc.

Currently running my own consulting, design and marketing business focused on Internet media. In charge of marketing, traffic and SEO for http://www.burningangel.com, http://joannaangel.com, http://www.horndog.com, and the soon to be re-released http://www.thedrjohnnyshow.com.

I also own and run http://www.cigar-review.com and http://www.cigarglamour.com and have several other client references. I write for Klixxx Magazine as well as moderate their message board.

Web site and client references can be emailed.

Heya KevinG! I knew there was someone I'd talked to about this but old age is beffudlin' me.

I'll go back to your posts over at Klixxx.

If you've been in marketing that long we must've crossed paths. I was more into the licensing area. I'd do comics and the toy licensing companies would do the toy licensing thing. LIMA is the main organization. Ever go to the big shows in New York during the summer? Great shows. I was showcased there like four or five times and won the MIPCOM twice.

Small world.

Hey Greg, yes but the last time I went to LIMA was 10 years ago. I was the project manager for a model hobby company for licensing and developing plastic model kits for the Aliens series of movies that starred Sigourney Weaver, Judge Dredd (comic book version, not Stallone movie) , Elvis' Pink Cadillac in a diecast collectible, and model kits to go with the Stargate movie.

Hey wheres the toys?

Up my butt and around the corner.

Oh, those toys!

They are all discontinued, off the market now. Most toys have a short product life cycle and these were over 10 years ago.

Now THAT sounds like a fun job.
I'm assuming you have some of those nice models around the house?
I don't remember the Stargate models. I would have liked to have gotten some of those.

Actually, some prototypes are in my parent's attic and one hot chick sculpture is under my bed. Not joking.

They were short lived because the movie pretty much bombed and Toys R Us was pissed off at me for convincing them to buy a ton of them.

You could have got them on sale in 1994.

DAMN! I Liked Stargate. (It's in my permanent yearly "re-watch" library) And it did inspire a VERY successful series.

I thought you looked familiar! Dude we were at the same places the same time.

Take a look at this site, it has the model kits that were made from my comic book. You'll see them rotating in the animated gifs:

http://www.monsterposse.com

That was the first license for the book, resin model kits! That's how I found out about the Gremlins in the Garage website. Met armies of modellers and sculptors!

I did the designs for the Planet Wars tv show from Trendmasters Toys back then. They were showcased at LIMA along with the Starcastle toys we did the promo for. As usual, my stuff won the show and then people got greedy and figured they could run with it and fucked it up.

Now I run my own shit. New comics and toys under my control.

That's why I'm re-establishing my affiliate program, gonna pick ten webmasters who know what they're doing, sit at home and draw and do more comics. Every comic I've worked on got optioned for a movie. That money was good and I need to do more of it.

I'll talk to you more KevinG at our usual hangout.
