Just think of all the people you can sue now.
Football coach: How much do we need for a first down?
Assistant coach: Looks like about a foot, man.

I'll need to finish law school first but for a fee I'll ferret out anyone that ever uses the word footman without your permission.
I've got a domain I'd like to trademark. Does it always take a year?

We've trademarked a lot of stuff, and it always takes a while. I just checked the "Carol Cox" trademark, and here is the break down
Filing Date: May 26, 2000
Published for Opposition: October 30, 2001
Registration Date: January 22, 2002
So that one took 19 months from filing until we got registered, and there wasn't an issue with it.
When we did "Wild Rose", there was one issue we had to clarify, and it ended up taking just over 2 years to get it registered.

Danny's experience is similar to mine. Mine took 15 months with no complications. What took them so long I have no idea.

A footman (plural -men) is a male (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Male) servant (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Servant), notably as domestic staff (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domestic_staff).
Why? is it a servant of the foot? or the female?

How about 7 years?
But good luck on yours!
You now enter the 5 year cancellation period.

The image is now copyrighted.....
If you would like it to be registered, that'll cost you.
Now, if the question is, can you trademark it?
The first question is, Have you already, or do you intend to, use it in commerce within the next 6 months?
Yes? application and fee please.....
(Oh, and the advice fee to EJ's Handy Dandy legal info service: $2950)
