Business Commitments

Here is a thought provoking question for you all.

When you tell someone you'll do something for them, business wise, do you
ever rethink that commitment and cancel the deal/engagement/meal/call?
If so do you come up with a lame excuse or do you tell the truth
(cause you know in this biz someone will tell it for you if you don't)?


I am older than a lot of people I deal with. But,I believe me when I say this...
If I tell you I am going to do something for you, I'll do it or go down trying.

And as luck would be, if I can't figure out a way to make it happen...
I will tell you face to face the exact reason I can't do the deed.

This makes no sense to some of you, the FFN's know exactly what I am talking about.


People tell your secrets. If you want no one to know... keep it to yourself.

Its very hard to help out someone when they consistantly fall short at the very last minute. What makes it worse is the fact that you know they are good folks at heart but it still doesnt make it any better.

Especially when you go to bat for them to help out only to be left looking like a major asshole in the end.

And the topper was being publically lied to.

I wont do it again.

If what i'm being told is 100% true... hell 50% true, then that is very sad.

I am in Seattle often( my Hubby lives there). I appreciate your offer and I will keep that in mind.

However, I do keep my commitments. Maybe there are others that post on this board that could utilize your services.

My word is really all I have and I am very glad to have kept nearly all of my commitments to others these past several years. If it turns out that I am unable to follow through on a commitment, I own up as soon as I realize the situation and find them other qualified candidates to take my place. Usually I send them a choice of a few qualified people (who are already briefed on the project and what my tasks were to be.)

I know where you are coming from, and believe me I feel for ya.

If someone tells you they are going to do something, you expect it done...wheather it's a friend, or you are paying for it.

If I tell someone I'm going to do something for them, or help them with something, I do it. It's just the right thing to do.

A person is only as good as their word, and if they back out too many times, they just aren't worth dealing with any more.

I've been screwed over too many times on different things that the only person I rely on now is myself.

This is kinda a touchy subject well for me anyways...I know whatever commitment I make I keep period.

But as well know not many people out there are like that I will only give a person 1 chance and if they blow it for any other reason other than act of god well then it was nice knowin them but the true colors came out so I really wouldent feel that bad at all...

Its just the lack of respect (friend or not) an poor business sense that really urks me:hmm:

Yeah, you may have read too much into that one.

I assure you Kathi is not one who has trouble with reliability. That thought actually makes me laugh, as she's one of the most dependable people I've ever known.

I think this one will unfold soon enough. I suspect sabres are rattling just a little bit to see if anyone has anything they wanna fess up and explain themselves.... Kind of a letting them know that we know deal.

Bottom line, there's thousands of people in the business, but the industry is very closeknit and feels much smaller. There aren't a lot of secrets that stay secrets.
