I've been using FF as default for about 4 months now, I like allot of features it offers.
I went to CompUSA yesterday, "For you Canadians, it's a computer store here in U.S. :whistling "
& I got to play awhile with the new Windows Vista, All it seemed to be like It's just a Souped Up Version of the regular XP. So I'll just sit with what I'm using at the moment with FF.

Took a quick look across my sites I'm running something like this:

MSIE: 66.57%
Firefox: 26.9%
Safari: 3.08%
Opera: 1.49%

Everyone else is fighting for scraps.

Firefox slowly pecking away at it. Not sure they'll ever get the majority though because most people just aren't tech savvy enough to bother swapping out what comes with the OS.

The lesson in there is your true newbie dumb ass surfers are your MSIE surfers....that means they're also the easiest to convert with adult. Firefox users are more savvy.

I've been using FF for well over a year. When I build free sites and such, I always make sure they look just as good in FF as they would in IE.

Yup, good code should look right in both Firefox and MSIE.

Since I switched what looks good in FF looks different on IE & visa versa.
I truly do not find a medium between the two, finding myself having to decide which one I'm going to stay with on publication, and which one I'm willing to sacrifice and leave looking crappy. I presume I'd go with the one I receive more hits from.

Internet Explorer or Mozilla? Yahoo or Google? Chocolate or Vanilla? Missionary or Doggy? Waffle House or Denny's?
These are the dilemma of a Surfmaster :( I need an Internet melting pot here

I sometimes forget about cross browser compatability.

Pages looking well in IE as well as Netscape used to be the major concern. Sounds like there are still more issues that some of us forget.

Does anyone know of some handy code like there used to be with Java script to ensure your pages look good in major browsers?

I hit one the other day that made me go hmmmm.

I was working a "css only" layout (no tables, just class and ids defined in css) and it worked properly in IE but was messing up in FF.

Checked the code 10 ways to hell, through all sorts of css checkers, changed it around in ways I know should throw it off.

Bottom line was that FF was not handling the css properly but IE was.

I finally figured a work around that forced it to work in FF.

It was weird though, kind of like working backwards because I am so used to IE being the fucked up browser.

I use FF and IE about equally.

I haven't noticed any difference in the way pages look in FF or IE. I too check my sites in both. What I have noticed is how it handles cookies and permissions. For instance I can't see anything if FF when I go to Amazon so I use IE. It also won't log me into CCBill so again I use IE. It just does that with some sites and I never have time to try and figure out why. All and all I use FF.

As for Vista- I got my son a pc recently that has Vista loaded. Its pretty damn cool but of course I'll wait at least 6-12 months. I can't afford downtime and I run too many programs. I went through hell when I switched to XP. Vista would take some getting use to like anything esle but its really cool.

I don’t notice any real difference when viewing my LL http://www.bluemom.com in IE or FF on my PC at home or at work. I used to but I just kept “fucking” around with it in Dreamweaver until it got better and saved those templates for future use.

Never had a problem with CCBill in FF.

I used to have a problem viewing sites with the .shtm extension in FF but I added AddType text/html .shtm to my .htaccess and it cleared that up.

Oh yeah, the other thing I noticed with FF is I can’t paste text at Oprano but I can with IE :scratchin

IE is a "forgiving" browser
FF is "strict" browser

so, if something looks great in IE that means IE understood what the issue was and presented it the way it thought it should be presented, and when you open FF and it looks all jacked up, that is because firefox is presenting it the way it was coded

Feel like saying "No shit sherlock"... But trying to play nicey nice, ya know.

That is the traditional logic, as it was back in netscape days between ns and days.

The particular issue I was working with was coded correctly and worked in all browsers I checked except FF, I checked ie, opera and a couple of others I have on my home desktop just for such investigations.

In this case FF was requiring a display line (display: block;) that none of the others cared about. When I checked all my refs they indicated that I should not have to set the display to get where I wanted to be.
