WINDOWS VISTA: WHY NOBODY CARES

Back in the day, your operating system was a big deal. It was who you were. Mac vs. Windows was like Catholic vs. Protestant, or Republican vs. Democrat, and about as rational. Now it's somewhere down around Coke vs. Pepsi. Microsoft is still winning the battles — the iPod "halo effect" notwithstanding, Apple is hovering at about a 5% market share — but no one's getting worked up about the war. So many of the file-compatibility issues have been solved, and so much computing goes on in the browser anyway. So who cares?

That's one reason for the near-total non-excitement surrounding the launch of Windows Vista, the first new version in five years of the software that runs hundreds of millions of PCs. The other reason is that Vista is ... pretty good. It's not a disgrace, and it's not a masterpiece. It's not worth buying a new machine for Vista, and there's no reason to switch to it if you use a Mac, but it gets the job done. Not the stuff of which great headlines are made.

this guy is the reason mac sucks :)

resource-hog.

if you can't afford a 2 gb ram p4 2.8ghz or higher why bother having a pc??? prices for hardware are so low that makes that remark a stupid one.

hell i have my pc i built it 1 year ago. the only upgrade i had to make to be vista ready was video card $85 256mb geforce 7100 dual monitor.

this guy sounds like he wants to run new software on freaking old pentium III's come on.

not even going to go there with MAC no one has a real mac unless they are making real money from it. and even then i can probably beat almost any mac out there with my setup and with vista.

anyways looking forward to vista.

XP so far to me has been close to perfect. i don't have virus problems i have always kept it up to date no hacks no spyware. it is like owning a car if you have good maintenance they will last.

and don't tell me mac doesn't need maintenance ofcourse it doesn't there is only 5% of the world using it why the hell bother to break it.

the only thing I can figure with all these vista bashers is that every one of them is running a 1st generation celeron with 256mb ram, just to give bad reviews

and you are right, hardward is SO cheap these days, it makes no sense to be on a slow ass machine anymore

hell, I have 4gb of ram on my desktop just cause it is so cheap, I got it for $200 .....and that 4gb will last me a DAMN long time with my athlon xp 3200

you guys up there need to do something about it. in panama there is no dialup anymore (not provided by telephone company you have a couple of scammers runing dial up but very little) cable modems and adsl rule down here.

i know there is not that much people here but if you compare ratios you guys are in stone age.

I was in Cambodia a couple of years ago and it was all blazing fast connections. No dial up at all. Freeking Cambodia where they move entire families on a Honda 90 and still ride donkeys.

it's taking over little by little, Now with all these 3in1 packages with everything all wrapped into one deals, Slowly but surely it will end up eliminating the phone line. Even at the financial end for the consumer it becomes a great deal now. It just needs more time. "theres alot of us now"
