The founder of the world’s most prolific reference website, Jimmy Wales, has announced plans to expand his Wikipedia empire with the launch of a search engine that is run not on algorithms but human input and intelligence.

It'll be interesting to see how he tries to combat the spam.

Yahoo's directory has become largely useless and de-emphasized because even after starting to charge for it, you cant afford to pay enough humans to stay anywhere near current and make a profit.

Dmoz also became largely useless due to the moderators ultimately all having their own agendas of spamming their shit and that of their friends.
