James Gandolfini doesn't like porn.

'The Sopranos' star was put off X-rated material when he made '8MM' -which is about a private detective (Nicolas Cage) investigating a snuff film.
Gandolfini told Esquire magazine: "I don't like porn. I thought I did until I made '8MM' and met some real-life porn directors to get a feel for the character. I realised the process of making pornography did not sit easy with me."
Snuff films are pornographic movies which seemingly contain real murder scenes.

Yeah, I have heard that too. I think it is because its beginnings were based in an entirely different world then the one we live in. and they are carrying on the tradition.... but I'd be willing to bet it is changing to be nicer to the talent.

Back in the day it was basically strung out whores and backslapping pimps who used it as another way of exploiting a resource (pussy)

with the advent of the internet, you can actually have regular every day type of folks who like sex involved. 8mm wasn't that bad of a film but it definitely focued on the seedier side of this industry

There are bad apples in every bunch! I'm sure James still jerks off to the stuff, even if he does find the industry distasteful.

I think the video side of this business is no different to the stills side. I assume that is what you are talking about. In fact most do both anyway. So the slime factor is prolly the same.

Regional dynamics seem to be in play as well.

There's lots of starry eyed young hotties in the LA area looking for a big break but meanwhile needing money. With that supply, dirt bags can exist and get away with treating models as meat at best. Another fresh 18 year old gets off the bus every few hours.

Most of the real horror stories about bad treatment I've heard from models has been in LA. Of course, that also is where there's the most work.

I used to think that when I came from video to internet, but lately it is getting really bad on the internet side also

I have felt this negative vibe from the whole thing more and more lately, the only difference I can see is that internet slime are smarter about how they are slimy, video people are just dumb bafoons about it

There's not a lot of face to fact interaction other than at shows, it's all on the boards, so the dirt bags can really hide it to. And hey, if you get busted out, just lie straight to everyone's face and circle the guys you've bought drinks for to come on in and tell what a top notch guy you are.

Worst case, change handles, start over.

Reputations are built thru post count, not business practice.

People into making illegal underground shit are a whole different breed then most the people you guy come in contact with. It’s normally a network of eccentric’s or heavy fetishes that can’t get off any other way and willing to pay high dollar for smut, regardless the legal risk. So I’m wondering what type of directors he actually hung around.

Back in the 80’s I remember trying to hunt down good BDSM content. Good content was hard to find & expensive to produce. Through many grapevines I stumbled across some very seedy people and saw video samples that I am sure were not consensual scenes. In fact one guy, well know back then, went to jail.

There is a big difference between the porn lords of the past then today, especially with the more underground stuff.
