That tells them who to shut down. Let's assume they already know that. They want to do it without alerting the host as to what is going on.

You can have a hosts entire upstream cut off for a lot less.

You can have a hosts entire upstream cut off for a lot less.
Don't want the host to be alerted to it. Cutting off the upstream would probably alert the host quite loudly.

If that were the case then DirectNic would not have given Slick a deadline prior to shut down. The shit storm this created on the boards most certainly notified the host.
If the Feds wanted the sites down they show up at the host unannounced, with a warrant, and sites are shut down. The Feds have no need to be subtle.

In true CP investigations, they do keep things quiet and even more disturbing, keep the investigations going on for quite some time. It seems you're always hearing "After a 2 year investigation.....". My thoughts are always "And how many kids got abused in those 2 years? Did you REALLY need all that time?". I guess they do, but it still pisses me off and makes me sad :(

That was caused by Slick. Myself, I get an email like that only me and my closest advisors are going to know about it, kind of like if you got a sumons from the city for too much dog shit in your yard. I would be embarassed to have it come out that I was being looked at by anyone as possible cp and further I would not go and show my ignorance by saying I didn't think it looked like cp and I didn't have enough time/energy to run my business properly.

when you are to the point of a site needing to be shut down, the whole days of being subtle are past
if you are a fed, and you are to the point of the site coming down, you are ready for the shit storm and you show up at the host and direct the host to pull the plug

Shutting them down is easy, the feds can do that a number of ways. But that's not typically how they run a child porn investigation.
What they really want is:
1) The source of the content. Who shot it, where, who are those kids in the pics, etc. This is always priority one.
2) Who is behind it all? "follow the money"
3) Who are the buyers? They like to collect these lists because each one is a potential predator. They may not go after every one who buys a membership, probably wont, but you can bet they catalog the data and list them as people with known interests in KP.
Basically I think it would be a real stretch to think this is what's going on with Directnic right now. Doesn't really add up for me.
