Got my first blog up now what help would like to customize wordpress help

Hello, I finally got up my blog I used the simple to go way of using my cpanel fantastico wordpress already there. I would like some help customizing it now if anyone can help. I like the setup of the admin area but would like to change the main index page template. I use frontpage do I just create a page that I want then add the folder to with the full web page up to the wordpress template folder? About plugins I am not very familiar with them is this were RSS and other feeds are I would like to add some automatic feeders like RSS and others that will post everyday on auto pilot if possible. If anyone has a good tutorial that I can go to on customizing wordpress other than the wordpress site I would appriciate thanks.

I've kept this to a very general list - kind of "Things I wish I'd known before". If I can help with anything specific, just shout.
It's great to play with site design at first but I 'd do the minimum you can live with and start getting in some content. You can always tweak at leisure later. The most essential by my reckoning for SE purposes is to get your title tags and permalinks set up properly. Then start looking for hard link exchanges. You wont have a Google PR for a few months so it's difficult to get incoming links with high PR sites at first but don't be tempted to just link to anywhere, it's worth being patient and persistent.

I did get the impression when I read it though, that you just wanted me to show you how to do a few things, which I would be glad to do, but we don't need to take it to email to do it, you can just ask questions here in the forum and people will be glad to help

If I misread and you actually did want to compensate me for some sort of services, then I apologize, but I just didn't take it that way so I put a low priority on it because I am swamped with paying gigs right now

first thing you need to do is go to the FTP location of those files, which varies from user to user, but after you get into the wordpress directory is located at

/wp-content/themes/YOURTHEMENAME

CHMOD all those files to 777

now, go into your wordpress control panel and to PRESENTATION>THEME EDITOR

now go to Sidebar

there you will find all your sidebars

now look for things like

<ul>

<?php wp_get_links(3); ?>

</ul>

those are your sidebar contents, and each one will be about the same and a good theme will have them seperated for you, like this:

Sorry to bother again but stuck again, ok I set permission on my leftbar.php page and added some content now I am trying to edit the right side but stuck I set the permission to 777 on a few pages the sidebar.php and header.php pages but now what is the sidebar.php the right side were the catalog & archieve and stuff I am trying delete catagories section add stuff but how do I plus add the name of the blog like a logo and a meta tag? :blink:

I did two of my sites wit WP and just paid someone to lay it out and set up image links. These two sites are information only and WP makes it very easy to update.

Right now I'm wanting to upgrade one of my community sites with a paid upgrade for content to Dolphin (www.boonex.com) which btw has a module for ccbill. I need some custom php work done and can't see to find anyone.

Jace when you optimize your blogs are you just adding keywords to the header, like in WP in presentations? I’m asking because what are the spiders actually indexing? Everyone tells me keywords and no content and I thinks that BS.

I want to have multiple blogs and have a good script that lets me post and update all of them. I have WP on my server now and two of my sites are run on wordpress
