View Full Version : Strange Things Afoot at Waffle House

We had a late night Waffle House run and found something that baffled us. One thing that goes along with being an FFN is a good understanding of human nature and the ability to figure out what people are doing in odd situations and spot things before most people even realize it's going on.

Dont get me wrong, this isn't due to degrees in psychology or any special capabilities. It simply comes from hanging out with weird people in unusual environments for 20+ years. Very few late night things baffle us.

Tonight was an exception.

So we finish a tasty meal of Bert's Chili and Cheese 'n Eggs and are standing around outside debating on whether I365Bill's call center employees got paid today or not. And we notice something weird.

Up at the end of the parking lot is a little old lady driving a late model PT Loser. I'd guestimate she's 65+. I saw no signs of homelessness, the vehicle was clean and well maintained. But she's just sitting there watching the dumpster.

Our first thought is she's selling ass. I offered GonZo a $5 bill so he could go find out, and he declined.

After a bit she pulls closer to the dumpster and gets out. She's appropriately dressed for the weather and clean. Again no signs of vagrancy or anything like that. We got to see inside the PT Loser, she's not living in it. We quickly figure out what she's watching is the stray cats hanging out at the waffle house dumpster.

As is the case with strays, some are stand off-ish, some will come running if they think there's food in it. She's feeding them something she brought with her. The waffle house folks on smoke break either know her or are friendly to her at least, they let her fill a milk jug with water to water the cats.

The cops come by during all of this, they seem to recognize her too. They asked if we knew her and said something about her being a cat lady and drove off. At this point we're wondering if Confucy is in town.

She was making no attempt to capture the cats. Or even pet them for that matter. She seemed quite content to just feed them. There's a couple she could've easily grabbed if she wanted to at any time as they were friendly.

We haven't figured this one out, it doesn't add up:

1) Old lady out at 2AM at a Waffle House dumpster.

2) Likes the cats, feeding the cats, but no attempts to snag the cats. Again at 2AM.

3) Obviously a regular occurence, the locals know her.

Old lady who loves cats but cant have them at home for whatever reason would make sense all except for the fact it was 2AM.

She outlasted us, we didn't ever get the answer. She seemed settled in to stay there with them for quite a long time, so we bailed.

Anyone else wanna speculate on this one?

If it had been pugs, I would've had some better guesses....

Well, we folks with weak hearts for abandoned animals do this. I've bought food for and fed many a cat at a fast food dumpster and I've bought food for a dog that hung around the McD's here in town for a while.

A friend of mine with a softer heart than I actually brought home a dumpster cat.

I tried to buy food for the "stray" at Wendy's in Blue Ridge but apparently he's the store dog and is very well taken care of.

Speaking of charity, PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: Give a few bucks to the Empty Stocking Fund and take some toys to Toys for Tots. It's not the kid's fault the parents are total fuckups.

You open a can of worms for which none of you FFN's could figure out & left pondering about a senior, some cats, and a fuckin' dodge?

Why didn't anyone approach the women and conversate with her?
5 bucks or not ?
Apparently ya'll had the time, since you managed to stay long enough to catch the local APD talk with her, including the waffle house cooks?
"I want to take this second to metion, Waffle House food is soooooo delectable....:licklips0 "

Ya'll looked, watched, and assumed. Making assumption you assume make sence in your minds, when the original picture itself makes no sence.

One of you's should of talked to her, you'd be amaized how much a persons life can be so complex and intreging hearing they're experiences.
I would have sat with her at the dumpster and chatted with the old lady for hours, if possible. I bet she's got some killer ass stories to share. :) especially being so close to the waffle house...shoooot, theres food only a few feet away.
"I'm set"

can we talk about Britnet Spears now? I definitly want some of that? :whistling

Only one I brag about my charitable contributions to is the taxman. To me it devalues it if you go around going "hey, look at me, i gave away some money!"

and I wouldn't have thought anything about it were it not 2AM and apparently a regular occurence at that hour.
