WESTON, Fla. — A woman who posted defamatory statements on an online bulletin board has been dealt an $11.3 million blow by a Broward County jury, leading adult entertainment lawyer J.D. Obenberger to say that website operators and Internet users need a wake-up call when it comes to the things they post on industry boards.
More year of the lawsuit coverage at ... (http://www.xbiz.com/news_piece.php?id=17511)
interesting
Obenberger could only speculate as to why the bulletin board had dropped out as a defendant, but said that liability for bulletin boards typically applies if the site edits content. Sites that don’t edit content, he explained, function more like Internet service providers in the eyes of the law.

On a local forum I'm watching 2 nitwits fighting. One woman published the guy's address, then the moderator removed the address and replaced it with the woman's real name (post is still there). One person called a school teacher a communist and now all hell has broken loose.
The "if you edit it means you're liable" rule has been around forever. I'm trying to remember the case back in the 90's where this came to being but we were told the reason Usenet did not remove content (when CP was posted back then) was due to this ruling.

Talk about a difficult customer... she "allegedly" started talking trash AFTER they did the job she asked them to do. Can't anybody just be happy when they get what they pay for anymore?
