CUTLERVILLE -- It began when officials from Byron and Gaines townships, the two communities that run the Cutlerville Fire Department, decided to check some fire department computer records.
They were trying to confirm budget figures, run reports and other information. But they found something they didn't expect.
"I would describe them as some of the most disturbing things I've ever seen," said Byron Township Supervisor Audrey Nevins.
Someone had downloaded pornography on a department office computer, and later on a laptop computer from an emergency unit.
Nevins blames two of the department's three full-time firefighters, even though the computers had little or no password protection.
