It appears that over the weekend a search update that affected the search results began taking place. A WebmasterWorld has a thread where folks are discussing the changes. These updates used to be quarterly, but now seem to be monthly, preceeded by several day by a backlinks update.

The increased frequency of the updates is a double edged sword. More opportunities to move up in the SERPS, but also more opportunities to move down.
