I was watching Spike Lee's special on HBO about Katrina. Besides being amazed at how many people are 100% dependent on the federal government, it seems everyone owns a can of spray paint! Tons of houses had a spray painted sign on them (no, I'm not talking about the spray painted notices the military/rescue people put on showing they had searched the house).

And watching news items when a hurricane is coming it seems there are hundreds of spray painted "Go away (insert hurricane name here)!!!!" signs on the ply wood they put up.

I don't have a single can of spray paint. Is this just something you own if you live in hurricane ridden places?

While I agree that there was a huge underclass in New Orleans who was completely helpless ( one reason I moved), I have to say I like the hurricane art. I have seen some very clever signs, and painted fridges. I think it is a way to deal with the pain with some dry humor.

That is why I always listen to talk radio after Saints games, I love hearing the fans - people in New Orleans have developed quite a wit, after all we lived in a city that was sinking....

Oh and spike lee only covered the black katrina. There is a whole other white Katrina that he refused to cover.

One interesting fact is that 65% of population of New Orleans was black, yet more then 50% of the deaths were of white people.

I could go on....

A gringo thing. That's funny because the last time I was in Mexico, I sure saw a lot of spray painted walls.

Yeah, I noticed that. VERY one sided. And IMO, it showed how these people are completly non self sufficient. They counted on the feds for EVERYTHING. Not a flattering light to me.

Some of the signs were funny - I'm just wondering if everyone has a can of spraypaint :)

Spike lee is a fuckin racist anti whity.
He covered the black katrina to bring to the front of view, that once again,
"How the black man is kept down" This is a never ending reminder from our fellow African Americans. On how they are "so-called" oppressed, keeped down, & stepped on. So while Latuanda sits on her porch with her 8 crack selling children, (who don't have how, or where to sell, due to Katrina) And Latuanda can't receiving her monthly Gov checks, and the babies daddy's are long fucking gone with a new fresher younger booty call.
And since the white man did what he done to them thru out history, for some reason they just cant seem to let it go or forget and step forward.

I wonder, ya know? Why is it that when Hitler attempted to destroy, kill and demolish the Jewish race, I don't see a bunch of jews looking for gov assistance living in the projects, or do I ever hear them constantly complaning about how the Germans practically destroyed there entire race?
Don't see it. it's history, it's sad, but they just moved on.

But not our black brothers, HELL NO, They just gotta keep rubbin it in on how there race is keeped down & forgotten.

You gotta have a sense of humor to be a Saints fan.

I think the last football game I went to (back in the early, early 80's) was ATL playing NOLA. All the Saints fans had paper bags over their heads.

There is a new Brees going through New Orleans.

Saints looked like a respectable football team today! I still do not think we will win more then 6 games, but that is a 100% improvement from last year.

The new coaching staff is remarkable!

I was born a Saints fan, they will always be my top team, unless they move from New Orleans.

I pull for Tampa, I enjoy going to their games, and they have the hottest cheerleaders.

:okthumb:

And I agree, Reggie could be rookie of the year, and should be a special player for a long time.
