WTF a bunch of internet pros. Please. You have no idea of the computing power he has at the touch of a keyboard. All you see is three screens. Hell, I am looking at two. There is one across the desk from me and a laptop behind me. But I would guess whatever Bill has blows whatever we have straight to hell and back. I can't believe the response to this thread. Duh.

Our response had nothing to do with Bill's enormous wealth and the amazing technology at his finger tips that is not visible in THAT PHOTO. We were responding to the idea that what was depicted in THAT PHOTO was somehow amazing. Doh!

um...bill gates has made it clear on numerous occasions that he never has the cutting edge shit, or something like that

plus, i doubt what we see there beats my machine, except he has one more monitor than I do

I said bill has one more monitor than I do....check the pic ;) I have dual 19" monitors

they are Xeon 2.8EGHz 800MHz bus 2mb cache

the reason I got the machine is because I write a lot of music, plus do shitload of video editing, and I was sick of having to upgrade to a new computer every year...I wanted something that is going to last at least 3 years

I don't even actually physcially touch the machine unless I am editing video or writing music, when I need to use it or do something on it I VNC in and do what I need to do

ok so it is not your daily pc now we are talking

what sound card do you have? usually heavy procs are good for video but a nice pro soundcard should not mess you up.

well of course not, I don't game and I hate sitting at a desk...I do use it daily though through vnc, why do you all hate vnc so much? it is most handy shit I use on a daily basis, it saves me from running up and down the stairs 100 times a day

oh, and the video card is the only thing I need to upgrade right now, it is a firegl v3100

vnc is slow the only advantage is the drivers thing but if you do server admin RDP is way better faster less bandwith consuming.

yeah nice card but yeah you need upgrade :) try pinnacle :) expensive but you will love it and probably will extend the life of your pc by 5 to 8 years unless some new proc and video crunching application comes up. but for the rest of us mortals that should be cool

hm..I haven't had any slowness with VNC at all, but then again I ONLY use it to vnc across a local network

in fact, it is quite speedy and suits my needs just fine

Is RDP the windows version of vnc? if so I tried that and hated it, it was super buggy when I tried it

ermmn its the other way around but yeah thats it...

what was buggy about it? i mean it is only remote desktop nothing else :) new windows xp version you can share harddrives on connection so no need for a different client to upload.

but again i only manage servers no aps like you so there is a difference. and yes its because you are in LAN but it gets slow over a couple of thousands of miles of fiber :)

well to manage the box you need pro but to log on to a box with RDP you can download the client.

Careful about telling people you have VNC loaded.

I hear there might be hackers here.

You see, I had no idea wtf you were talking about. A computer to me is just a box that makes me money. When it breaks someone fixes it. I don't log on remotely and see no reason to actually. Maybe you could enlighten me how I could use such a process.

Actually, I use mine remotely all the time when I'm out of town and it's very handy. I don't have to use webmail but can actually check my email on my office computer. I can access files and programs I don't have on my laptop too and I can do it all from a hotel thousands of miles away from my office.

Seems like a good idea, but my email is web based and lives on a server and when I travel I make sure my work is done and it just means checking my email and some ftp shit for updates. I am building more sites, so even this might be automated soon.
