This is the one everyone is raving about. A well organised event in a great venue. I think XBiz has another winner on their hands. Book early next year because it will surely sell out in record time.

All I see are pics of parties. Which I know htats what you do JFK but I have to yet hear any solid business conversation or feedback.

The seminars list I saw was a joke.

Well, the seminars were well attended, but we need a new set of topics to shake up the seminar circuit. I thought they had a fresh approach to things. Lot of the business was done at the cabanas, if you look at some of the other boards I'm sure you will see positive feedback about the event :okthumb: See you in Fla sir:)

Ya got me poking around with people I knew that attended.
Word is that the cabanas was indeed the place to do biz and meet people.

I suppose that folks can afford to come off of the hip for a little more networking chances when they required to pay for a booth.

Bottom line is the walk of shame thru a room filled with mindless drones , hired badge bait [you know the perky girls that follow you the entire show wanting to scan your badge 20 times a day?] or the porn Mormons [ the ones that troll the floor wanting to give you a leaflet] are ineffective means of ROI.

A little honest business is needed to shake the entire industry up.

Must have been a lot of GFY peeps there, because I didn't perceive the noticeable slowdown that happens on the boards during one of the Internext shows.

Now if they'd just move it back a month to lower the temperature from roughly that of a calderon to only an oven....

Ah, but if they did that it would fuck up Alec Hemy's plan to screw AVN and the summer Internext. I predict that next year the show date will be moved even closer to Internext. I think this year they put it in the middle of Cybernet and Internext to steal from both, but Cybernet is so small and had some issues this year so next year I doubt they'll worry about them.

There has to be a weeding out of shows, there are way too many of them. The strong will survive.

So Alec is the man to do the weeding eh? Seems to me that the webmasters do the weeding. They go to the shows they like and do good business at and the ones that are poorly attended will die naturally.

Frankly I think it makes no sense to say there are too many shows. There are as many shows as sponsors and webmaster wish to support.

The really funny part of what you just said is the XBiz just added a NEW show and yet you say they are doing it to REDUCE the number of shows? :)

The only show Alec Helmy is trying to weed out is run by AVN.

Nowhere Did I say, or even imply, that Helmy will do the weeding, always have. My concern is how long can the pace be kept up, the avarege webmaster cant afford to take the time, or foot the expenses for a show every 2 weeks. There is just not enough return on the investment.
If you care to read the next Issue of The FUBAR TImes, there is an article in there addressing this situation. This was written apx 3 months ago, based on what I hear around the shows. It has nothing to do with 2 media groups being in competition.

Not that I'm trying to start an argument here, I just think it's funny to talk about what you refer to as the runaway success of the year and at the same time say there are too many shows. Even if I agreed that there were too many (which I don't), it wouldn't seem to make much sense to applaud a new one at the same time that you say there are too many. (Yes I realize you're tight with XBiz now so you're hyping them.)

The reason it seems that there are too many is because they are all stacked in the same 6 months of the year. Except for some minor shows, the majors start in January and end at the first of August and we have Phoenix, Cybernet, XBiz and Internext all jammed into less than a 4 month period.

If Alec wasn't so intent on fucking up AVNs summer show, it seems to me it would have made far more sense to put his in October or November in a nice warm place.

4 major shows in 6 months is too much -- even for those that can afford it -- but spreading the 4 popular shows out over an entire year instead of cramming them all into half a year would make it easier for more webmasters to attend them all and then they could all make money.

p.s. Since you make a living attending these shows and taking the photos, does it really matter to you how many there are? Just asking.

Me thinks I'm going to have to make this the topic of discussion on my new radio show.

I hope you don't take my comments personally Julius, I just disagree with your opinion and am stating my own.

Hammer first of all, I'm tight with every publication;) So I am an equal opportunity Hyper:)

Let me ask you something, if you put on a show and the attendance exceeds your expectations by a Big wide margin, would you not call it an overwhelming success? Read some of the comments on the other boards in regards to it.

Not many promoters will put a show in a nice warm place in October or November because it costs too much, if you follow the boards this has been discussed ad infinitum.

"Since you make a living attending these shows and taking the photos, does it really matter to you how many there are? Just asking."

I realize I'm biting the hand that feeds me, but I am at every show and I do hear comments in regards to it. I just brought it to the forefront. So dont kill the messenger.

"Me thinks I'm going to have to make this the topic of discussion on my new radio show."

Glad I can be an assisstance in getting you new topics, let me know what the results will be.

Btw competiton in any business is healthy, as you will get a better product ultimately.

Thanks Julius, I'll sign up today and pick up the current issue at your booth.

I don't disagree with most of what you're saying, but it would be nice if the promoters thought more about the webmasters than their own agendas.

BTW. Gonzo and I will be conducting some live interviews at Internext and I'll be using them on my show, so maybe we can have a chat with you about this and other fascinating topics.

p.s. I'm having some crazy tshirts made to promote my new show and will be wearing them at the show and I'd love it if you could get some good shots of me. Drugs are bad, publicity are good.... mmmkay? :)

I find the show scene to be fascinating....

In most other industries, shows are in decline or going thru consolidation. There used to be a tech show almost every month, Comdex, InterOp, PC Expo, etc. Now CES is really the only one of any real significance other than specialty shows.

Meanwhile, adult shows are multiplying like rabbits. Although companies dont throw around money like they used to, there's still alot of small businesses with good cash. No corporate budgets to worry about and no real concern for ROI or justification. People will show up just to party, mingle and network.

National shows may be reaching a saturation point. But I think the future is going to be regional shows. Costs very little to produce, exhibit or attend a regional show. And it has many of the same advantages. Smaller audience means there'll still be a need for nationals, but the biz is big enough to feed regionals for many areas at this point.

Sooner or later the small businesses will wake up and look for that ROI, the money pit is not bottomless. After all is said and done, its still a business and anyone who is serious about staying in it, will watch the bottom line.

The big businesses will start seeing it soon too. Getting thousands of dollars worth of receipts to send a 2-3 non-management employees to shows to party and buy drinks and lap dances for the top producers will eventually lose it's shine. No one's going to leave a company that's making them money because they didn't get a company T-shirt. It's a lot cheaper to send your top affiliates some very high end gifts every few months than to give your employees free vacations. Unless you're new in the biz or have a lot of new sites that are coming out, attending a show is nothing but a big party that a lot of the actual owners seem to no longer want to be a part of.
