Who is going to the florida show later on this summer?

Internext?

hell no...it would cost us almost $2000 just for the basics for that show....not even close to being worth it

Not I. First time since it started I won't be going. I MAY go down to Miami for a few days to see friends and family while the show's going on, but that depends on some other things that might be going on at home.

I'll be there as I really like the summer Internext show. After the Phoenix Forum, I think this is the best show of the year.

Of course, I think the best shows are at hotels, where we have the whole place. Plus most decision makers still go to this show.

What, Peaches giving out misinformation? Let me guess, XBiz paid you to say that, right? :)

Smoking is not permitted in the rooms or inside the hotel, which is the way it is anywhere in Florida. Smokers will be able to smoke outside of the hotel by the pool or the outside lounge area, however.

Yes, and the areas I've mentioned will be designated smoking areas. I assure you that AVN has made it clear that we have plenty of smoking webmasters (I smoke cigars) and we'll be given some leeway.

I booked my room a week ago and took one of the Grand Delxue (ocean view) rooms and had to take a 2 double bed room because there were no king bed rooms left. I don't think there are going to be any unrented rooms by the time of the show and if the webmasters that weren't smart enough to clarify information with a reputable source instead of relying on the idiots on GFY for their info, that's their problem.

Of course, switching hotels makes no sense anyway because they will still be at the Westin all day and only in their rooms to sleep, once would assume. So, how does that help them?

I think the "idiots" they were relying on for info was the Westin. The rooms get booked every year in full and every year the rooms aren't full by the time the show starts. If you didn't get the room you wanted, put your name on the waitlist and I bet you'll get it :)

I am neither happy nor go lucky.
Didn't get the entire thread the first time from the link I was sent, so didn't see the part about the smoking question, although I thought this was cleared up some time ago.

I will again make it abundantly clear - you can smoke outside of the hotel anywhere - this includes by the pool. Although Westin has implemented no smoking policies, the Diplomat is giving our clients special priveledges to do so, going so far as to put that fact in writing for us. So smoke your brains out.

As far as my PR shit, I'm serious. Whoever mentioned earlier that most of the decision makers in the industry attend this show was absolutely right. Beyond that, we have added several things that are going to make this show one of, if not the best of the year.

Further, anyone who can't find amateurs to shoot with at the show, I'd be happy to introduce you to several.

As always, if you have any specific questions about the show you can contact me directly and I'd be happy to help you out.

We are getting pretty close to the show. Can you tell us about some of the things youve added?

Absolutely...

In addition to our seminar series, we've added workshops to the program. These will be more intensive and offer more one-on-one participation. I can't give full details yet because we haven't formally announced them and are still hammering out the details of one of them, but that will happen soon.

As for the seminar series itself - it's been completely revamped. For some time now everyone, us included, has been presenting the same tired, and overly general seminar topics. Well, no more. We've attempted to give you the knowledge to move forward in this business with new endeavors and options. And as always, you'll get some to hear from some of the most experienced and high profile individuals in this businesses. Saying that, a few of the new additions to the seminar schedule are: Moving Offshore - examining the pluses and pitfalls of moving your business offshore, Mass Appeal - taking your adult brand to the mainstream, and Gambling for Profits - the business and legalities surrounding online gambling.
The full sked is here: http://www.internext-expo.com/seminars/descriptions-schedules.php

Finally, the parties. While you all expect killer parties at Internext, this year we are bookending the show with our own events. Thursday will kick off with the Internext Mai Tai party from 6-9 p.m., featuring live music and free-flowing Mai Tais. I cannot tell you who will be playing the event - it's a surprise for our attendees.
The show will close with the GAYVN farewell party Sunday evening, featuring complimentary drinks and food.

Those are a few of the highlights. If you haven't been to Internext Summer before, it's an all-inclusive event bringing together more than 2000 top decision makers in the adult industry.

Oh yeah, and you can smoke by the pool.

As for smoking, I am sure they are more tolerant of smoking throughout the outdoor area when you book the whole hotel.

I am not worried about the smoking situation as I am confident AVN has taken care of it. Let's face, nothing would piss off the webmasters more than to have a non-smoking trade show-ain't gonna happen.

I look forward to the show as I always do. I expect to get a lot of business done.

No, let me clarify. The property is reserved for the show only. There will be free brunch each full day of the show. There will also be several sponsored parties and dinners. All the free food and drink you want will not be included. For example, if you order room service, you have to pay for it.
All inclusive as a resort where you pay one price and get everything free - no. All inclusive as an event, where it's only attendees and the property is closed off - yes. There will be a multitude of opportunities to eat and drink free, if that is a concern, however.

I said it earlier... your results may vary.

I consider each of these shows carefully before I bother. Im not there for the parties or to hang out with the "cool kids" so its an investment for me.

Last year with the hotel being closed to the public was pretty good. A lot of us speculated that it might end up bad but even with everything being a paid advertisement including the toilet paper.... it ended up good.

In years past and at that show in particular someone must tell all the locals that the porners are coming to town. The only thing that was bad about it was that it made it harder to find someone dealing coke than it was in the past. [joke]

But you could find all the hookers around the pool at night wearing a "guest" pass. [not a joke]

Its a business investment. If you dont see any return in going and your not keen on the parties then my advice is to skip it.

There are still rooms left at the Westin though.
I booked mine today.

The way I see it though, is there are way too many shows these days to justify such an expense. I love the parties, yes, but I am there to network with people that I can do business with....and while someone pointed out earlier, a lot of big dogs and program owners attend internext, I know most of them from online....so meeting them face to face isn't that big of a deal to me....because I am already dealing with most of them.

The only real excuse I would have for going is to introduce Tabitha to more people and maybe gain 3 or 4 more affiliates, but then she would get more annoyed with the whole setup than anything....she is a very private girl, and for the most part very quiet....and I just think florida would be way too much for her.....not to mention, in the end, if we didn't walk away from it with a recoup of our expenses from some deal that was made, she would be awfully upset.

plus, we are going to LA to work a couple of weeks before that, so 2 trips in one month would not be fun at all for our homebody asses.

so, yeah, you are right, I need to look at it like an investment, and I just don't see any return on that investment for this particular show....we already have a couple of other shows on the schedule though, particularly ones that won't rape us for cost before we even get there....we ain't broke, but we are cheap as fuck...haha

I'm guessing that the week of the show will be when we get hit by the next major hurricane. Should be a really great view of the night sky without all that annoying light pollution from the pitch black hotel. Sky really was beautiful after Wilma hit. It was a moonless night and not a cloud in the sky. My backyard was so dark that you couldn't even see a few feet in front of you. It was cool night with little humidity and the sky was amazingly beautiful spoiled only by the roar of generators.

I'll be at the show unless I'm home tending to a generator in topical hell.:whistling

Actually, I have never understood why folks live in such a harsh climate. Hell if I knew the weather was gonna kick the shit out of me every year, I would move on. Is it economics?

Actually, I have never understood why folks live in such a harsh climate. Hell if I knew the weather was gonna kick the shit out of me every year, I would move on. Is it economics?
Guess it is your definition of harsh.

Lived in northern California as a young adult and we had fire storms in the dry season and then mud slides in the rainy season not to mention you just never knew when the next big quake would hit.

Lived in Pennsylvania as a child and remember being snowed in and temps of -20 F that could kill. I fucking hate the cold and snow.

Neighbor has family in Oklahoma and they have to back the SUV out of the garage and climb into the tornado shelter in the floor of the garage within twenty minutes of the tornado sirens going off which is a few times of month some months.

Most of the year in southern Florida is paradise with little humidity and temps in the seventies. We have great shopping and dinning and no state income tax plus one of the best homestead tax laws in the US. It is not cheap to live here but not as bad as California or New York. I own no warm clothes and pretty much am able to wear the same clothing year round.

Summer and part of fall is hot and humid but you get used to it and learn to only go outside from the A/C in the evening.

I've lived here for most of my life and only been through five hurricanes. We get lots of warning when they are coming and our houses are built to withstand them. Mostly they are more of an annoyance then anything else since they disrupt utilities and just make a big mess of everything.

Unfortunately the convention is held during the worst month of the year here.

And then for two months people get killed and livelihoods are wiped out by the weather. It seems to me its like living on the slopes of an active volcano. The weather is nice most of the time. But when it blows, it sucks....
There are a ton of very nice benign climates around that won't kill you. I have always been curious about people that live in harms way by choice. I have always chosen safe climates myself.

My house is built like a bunker with a low roof, small windows, and made out of cement block plus despite living less then a mile from the ocean I'm not in a flood zone being on what is considered high ground here. Because the ocean is very deep on this side of the state we don't have issues with storm surge like the Gulf coast does.

Hurricanes are a real pain in the ass. When one looks like it is coming my way I have to spend a hour putting up shutters and making sure that my almost 200 gallons of fuel storage is full along with all my other storm supplies. I spend extra each month on backup ADSL service since my very fast cable internet goes down for weeks after each storm. Probably going to switch to satellite for backup internet next year since a storm could knock out my backup ADSL service. I pay a lot for insurance on my home and also spent a lot this year having all my trees trimmed way back.

Hurricanes are an annoyance here but way more people die each week driving then from any hurricanes here since this area was built with hurricanes in mind.

Lived here for over twenty years without ever seeing a hurricane but it does look like things have changed. Hopefully we will not get one the week of the show.

Not sure why I would take the top out of my car other than having an odd sadistic desire to be baked alive under the Florida sun.

I agree Cleo. I lived in the Midwest most of my life. Harsh winters & tornadoes in the Spring. Summers way too short (and humidity) I miss the beautiful fall foliage, but that always means 'enjoy it now - because the snow will soon be behind.

The area I live in Florida had not had a hurricane in 40/50 years. We got brushed the last two years. Guess it is just the odds catching up. Just my luck, move down here permanently, and the weather changes:-)

But, the 9 or 10 days a year we live with actual hurricane scares, are worth not having the freezing winters. No ice, no snow and being able to have all the windows open much of the year makes it worth it. It is actually GREEN here all year. Plus, I love looking out the window and seeing sunshine, even when it is too humid to go outside much. Most of us leave our air conditioned homes, get in our air conditioned car and go to the air conditioned mall or work place. I LOVE being able to go bare footed most of the year & not worrying about coats and scraping car windows! The traffic is also quite bearable in Cape Coral - not like many other areas.

Nothing affordable is perfect. (Not that this is affordable) but I appreciate the value.

Bah.. winter is great and, while most people would call Wisconsin winters harsh, we've had some really wimpy winters the last couple years as compared to when I was growing up as a kid. The old adage "when I was a kid" is VERY true when it comes to winter around here IMHO. They have been starting much later than they used to and have either been pretty mild/average for both or had an abundance of snow or an abundance of cold but neither together on a grand scale like it used to be. :(

Wow? I find the humity grossing. The traffic absolutly untalerable with all the seniors who can't barely even walk anymore "Worse off drive". And infested with these darker looking, smaller type speces of human called Mexicans. It's amaized how one persons view of misery, can be someone else's paradise. :scratchin

I guess all I can say is I'm happy for you that you found happiness in your choice of domiciles.

I drive less then 50 miles a week normally and avoid the roads at rush hour. Pretty much everything that I could want is less then 10 miles from my house and most is less then a few miles. I live in a private home with a private yard but I'm also living in the heart of the city within walking distance of a beautiful beach.

There is a lot of older folks down here. Hopefully people will be as nice to me when I'm old as I am to them. Really I have no problem with retirees and often end up talking with them and learning from their life experiences.

There is a lot of Latins and there is also a lot of Asian, African, Italian, Brazilian, Jewish, Indian, Native Americans, Plain Old Vanilla White Folks, plus a bunch of other ethnic groups, and lots of mixed race people like myself. I like the diversified ethic and cultural mix here. It makes for an interesting place to live.

Great dinning, great shopping, great nightlife. I don't own any warm clothes and have no reason to. I can drive a nice car year round since it doesn't snow. I go to the beach all year.

The downside is it is hot and humid for a few months out of the year but I just wear very little clothing and mostly stay indoors during the afternoon hours. We may get some bad weather for a few days during the storm season but I will take that any day over snow and cold for months on end.

I really do love living here. If for some reason I had to leave I would probably move to the desert like out in Nevada or someplace like that but I would miss the ocean and convenience of south Florida.

I live on the West Coast of Florida, in a preplanned city that is only at 50% of it's growth capacity. When I first arrived, it was mind boggling to see miles of 4 lane boulevards where there wasn't even houses or businesses yet. Except for the major business district - the traffic is aggressive and it MOVES. The Cape does have a lot of winter inhabitants, but overall, it is mostly families and working people. It is not a 'beachy community, it is a water community with miles of canals.

I love the sunshine and the fact that I have a boat - 20 ft. from my back door. The fact that Cape Coral has been one the top 5 fastest growing cities for the last 3 years, does mean that the day will come that my quiet slice of Paradise (although a very good investment) will become traffic infested. But, for now - it is quiet, serene and pure pleasure:-)

Looks to me like it is following the path of Katrina.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Katrina_2005_track.png

Katrina went south of Fort Lauderdale too. Didn't help at all with the fact that we had no electric for almost a week not to mentioned that I was unable to leave my neighborhood for three days due to fallen trees blocking all the roads out of my neighborhood.

On the plus side it should not be very crowded at the show at all.
