you should write to ICANN for their public comments section on behalf of DirectNIC to oppose the new .XXX TLD. I bet you'd gain a ton of adult business registering their domains at your registrar for representing what the majority of the industry wants. It doesn't hurt that you also have one of the best, if not the best domain registrar.

And think about it like this, even if it does go through, you will still get to reg new .XXX anyways, but people will remember you stood up and fought against it. It's what I like to call a win-win. GoDaddy wrote in and opposed it, I wonder how many webmasters will be willing to register domains there in the future...

I saw you already make one post about how its only about the "clowns" behind it. Why not make your voice heard loud and clear in the public comments section on the ICANN board.

The email address to write in is: xxx-tld-agreement@icann.org.

I think you meant that GoDaddy wrote in SUPPORT of it.

i sincerely doubt that they are going to take a position on it. your logic assumes a net gain in adult business clients and forgets the potential loss of mainstream business clients.

how many mainstream business clients are in support of it, with the religious right? ahh, none, except godaddy, other registrars, and ICM. the truth of the situation is that unless .XXX is censored, it will do nothing except expand the adult content on the internet. lets not forget that creating the .xxx won't force everyone to it (in addition ICM is pushing for a voluntary platform), that the bill to make it mandatory is separate and separated from ICANN (its an american law that has simply been drafted). fighting against .XXX right now is essentially fighting against the expansion of adult content to the reiligious right, and fighting for 1st amendment rights for the adult industry. its the perfect middle ground.

i'm not telling mike how to run his business, its up to him, just an idea.

Biggy, I am personally against .XXX I think it will cause many problems within the industry, and for my personal adult domain collection.

However, directNIC does not have an official posistion on .XXX

The reality is, ICANN is a typical beuracratic organization that only pretends to listen to groups and individuals - then they do what they think is best for their bottom line.

As an american I have absolutely ZERO doubt that once the .xxx TLD became available the politics of the matter would shift like the wind and an EXTREMELY strong push for all US webmasters to place their sites exclusively on .xxx would be in the offering. The religious right would push for that change once they accepted the reality of the .xxx domain being there and not going anywhere. I doubt a single us webmaster would enjoy seeing that happen and definately wants to see it headed off at the pass by not even allowing it to happen.

you need a lesson in logic 101.

i am sure they have fully weighed the following and have much better info to allow them to do so than you or i ever will...

- the potential net gain of a few webmasters - representing a statistically irrelevent number of people online

- the potential net loss of the rest of the internet that register domains because their registrar is telling them that they don't want to do anything about children seeing porn.

directnic is not a porn company. porn, represents a smaller and smaller part of revenue online every year.

the rest of the world does not care about "i have a dream speeches" and all they know is the news blurbs about .xxx and protecting children and child pornography.

there is no other side to it in the general publics mind other than what those nasty pornographers have to say... you know.. the same people that run credit card scams, install viruses/spyware, reset homepages, rip off credit cards and lie and lie and lie to make the sale.

take your blinders off. the general public thinks you are a scumbag... and they are not going to take your side no matter how far you want to stretch things in telling them that the constitution is under attack or with any other absurd arguement that they don't want to hear from you.. because they are not listening to you, never have and never will. they certainly aren't going to speak for you or rally behind you.

no, you need the lesson in both logic, but more importantly reading comprehension. apparently you are an arguer just to argue, without thinking. ill be the first to say, nothing you said is untrue, just horribly applied.

the last time i checked, the US gov't and religious right were against this, why would that be? when you find the answer to the question, you will realize everything i said as true.

im not giving you anything else, you can argue until you are blue in the face.

i am not saying you are wrong about anything other than the simple idea that you know whats in their best interest business wise. directnic is not an adult company and they have no direct interest in having a position. your logic is that they have something to gain from taking a stance. i simply pointed out to your narrow little mind that they also have something to lose. there is an element of risk in taking a position... no risk in not taking a position. what is it about that that is soooooo confusing to you???
