I have some bad news, Papa...

He won't be speaking at my graduation. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ali_G)

I'm so sorry to break it to you!

I am inconsolable...

I'd be pretty annoyed if I went to Harvard and they had AliG as the commencement speaker at my graduation.

That , in a nutshell , is why the wouldn't have taken you.

"Ali G, delivering the Class Day speech to the Harvard class of 2004."

I don't think "class day" is graduation ;)

Peaches, I've seen the tape, it was Graduation speech and I also agree with adultweblinks.

There are many reasons why Harvard wouldn't take me but my choice commencement speaker certainly isn't among them. BTW- I wouldn't want AliG, or a great many other people for that matter, to speak at a commencement at a local community college let alone Harvard. I certainly grant the man is a successful person but an entertainer, regardless of who it is, doesn't represent what the vast majority of those people going to look for jobs in the world can relate to for their post graduation expectation of success will be. Personally, in my opinion, FAR too much value is placed on celebrity and I would MUCH rather see a person who is a former alumni that went on to have a successful career in business, science, or some other field the vast majority of those graduating can look at and see themselves in. AliG would be more appropriate for a place where his chosen profession is a much greater foucs of the college. If they happen to be famous as well then so be it but I personally think a commencement speaker should reflect the focus of the school and it's graduates.

Class Day is the day before the comencement ceremony, NOT the graduation...Harvard has always had a history of having a very famous celebrity come and speak at it, it is something they have done for a very long time
