Has anyone here ever driven from Mexico down the Pan-American highway into South America?
I'm just curious. I know there are some danger spots like the Darien Gap as well as others. I want to go to Costa Rica later this year, maybe even stay a few months and wanted to bring a few dogs with me. Don't laugh, my dogs are like my kids... anyhow, it made me start thinking about taking a road trip & taking my van down.
Anyone do this before?

Yes I want to go to panama too. I heard that about Darien. maybe that will be another trip when I fly. I saw on a forum that Darien National Forest much of it is safe.
Do you live in Panama? Did we speak about this before? Boy the prices in Bocas sure went up in a year.

we have not spoken about this... but yes i do live in panama.
pretty nice specially now that is rainy season (good for offroading LOL)
whenever you want just let me know. Darien is not all that safe but you can still see nice places and not even have to go near darien.
i can show you some pics later on :)

yeah sounds good. i have not been to boca's yet i have been to chiriqui volcan. this season i am planning trips to that side of the country will see bocas..
soon going to san blas and pearl islands (where survivor whas filmed)
and all will be in 4x4 expeditions so aside from good old pavement we get the adventure of going where regular cars don't

That sounds like a lot of fun. I'm very much into rural adventures and off road. Pearl Islands sound cool. I have an old 1985 CJ7 jeep I'm restoring for off road. I don't think I'll take it down there but you never know. I was reading the duty on cars in Costa Rica to bring them in and it's quite high.
