I shot a few movies on Cannon, but they are in avi format and I can't see them via browser.
How do I convert them in MPG format?

Serge you would probably do better converting them over to WMV files.

You need video editing software, or compresion software to do it. ( this is the only way I know how) They may have some free software online to do this.

you can get Sorenson Squeeze, I use it and love it...you can basically convert anything to anything...it is like $60 though

your best bet though is to get TMPGEnc
http://download1.pegasys-inc.com/download_files/TMPGEnc-2.524.63.181-Free.zip

it is the best mpeg converter out there.

Pinnacle Studio nine will do the trick. You can edit and render to WMV and send them where you like. Costs about $150.00. There are a bunch of others like Vegas and others. I just happen to be familiar with Studio.

you want him to spend $150 to convert an avi to mpeg??? seems a bit drastic with awesome free tools like TMPGEnc out there

Depends if he wants to edit or not I suppose. If you shoot a bunch of video, its worth it. I assume you don't want to be putting hours of video on browsers. Its a cheap and cheerful solution that is easy to drive and useful.

Ulead Video Studio is a great program and alot of fun to play with. You can convert to any format with it - and lots of cool editing options.

Jayman fired me from editing my own video though, LOL. But I show you a video I did if you want. (Your eyes only).

Sabby, good job! I never seen anybody enjoying power tools the way you do!
;)

side observation:
curtains reflect the light and the camera.

wierd man, I have no clue, I have never had any trouble working with avi's...the only thing I can think is that it was compressed with some sort of codec that you don't have installed

install this with the basic options, this will install every video codec available on your machine...don't worry, it doesn't hurt anything and won't install spyware
http://www.free-codecs.com/download_soft.php?d=1642&s=95

you really shouldn't have to though now that I think about it, if you can view the file in windows media player it should open fine in tmpgenc

i really don't know man

Notes taken. And yeah sheer curtains really suck when shooting after 4pm in Canada in the winter.

I try to get my crew together earlier.

You got a Windows machine with XP SP2 Serge?

There's a free Microsoft program on it called Windows Movie Maker - it should do all you need ;)
Here's some info...
