Icann, the worldwide body that manages the Internet, had been expected to approve website addresses ending in ".xxx" at an international meeting under way in Wellington, but it is understood it will not now vote on the proposal.

Well, I'm glad that's not going to happen. Though I think the US motives are less than pure, I still applaud the move.

I don't care why it doesn't happen as long as it doesn't.

There are many reasons not the least of which is 10+ years of branding by adult companies. Imagine if all the links to all the worlds porn sites just stopped working. Imagine having to pay $60 for each domain and owning thousands.
Parent's need to use filters and accept that the internet is NOT a safe place for children.

hell, I don't even care about that....it is the fact that all porn sites woul;d be on a single domain extension, therefore if anyone wanted to block porn at the isp level, they would just flip a switch
imagine if Utah wanted to block porn, they would just flip a switch
what about Alabama? flip a switch
I do everything I can to make sure kids don't see anything xxx on my site, and I expect other site owners to do the same, but ultimately it all comes down to the parents doing their job
I don't see them putting regulations on excitement magazine, anyone can pick one of those up on any street in Atlanta...and it has ass and titties all over it...

I assume those who want porn will find a way to get it. I just don't like the idea that all the places they are use to finding porn simply go away.
States are not going to ban peoples access to something that is legal by US law. The local isps may make you request it but the national isps would very likely be just the other way around.

well, here is the deal with that...obscenity is based on a county by county basis...so what if Podunk, Arkansas decided one day that all porn was obscene? who is going to fight that? who from podunk would stand up and fight for their right to watch porn? no one, no one ever stands up in the spotlight and fights for porn
I know, it is an extreme way to view things, but in all honesty, haven't the past 6 years showed us some extreme situations and abuses of the government?
if they are going to put all porn on one domain, then they need to put all white power shit on .kkk and all drug advocation sites on .drg
etc etc etc
you can't single out one taboo thing and not follow with the rest, oh wait, you are the USA government, you can do what you want when you want, cause no one ever stands up and protests anymore

Top level domains don't have to be altered for a hometown District Attorney to call something obscene. It use to happen all the time.. it may still be happening we just hear about it less.

well, regardless, it is a bad idea

I'm with you there!
Let the record show I am 100% in favor of an .xxx domain and all porn being forced there
For my own selfish reason
and of course it is impossible for that to happen

can I ask why?
"Mr Lawley said.xxx would provide adult Internet users with some assurance they could view pornography at websites run by "responsible adult entertainment providers" without encountering spyware and computer viruses."
Sorry but WHAT THE FUCK is this moron thinking????
.xxx automatically means no spyware or virii? What is this guy smoking???
Also, Google images has many sexually explicit images, will they be forced to put those on a google.xxx domain only?
