WASHINGTON, March 16, 2006 (AFP) - Two US senators proposed legislation that would establish a new ".XXX" domain for racy or sexually explicit websites.

The bill proposed by senators Mark Pryor and Max Baucus, both Democrats, calls upon the US Department of Commerce to exclude sexually charged content from established website domain names such as .gov, .com, .org, .net, and .edu.

Baucus said at a press conference that the .XXX domain would help parents use filtering software to keep children from accessing pornographic sites, and would help prevent hapless Internet users from inadvertently stumbling onto sexually-explicit websites that they would prefer not to see.

"While the Internet is an exceptional learning tool, it allows children the same easy access to websites about space shuttles as it does for pornography," said Baucus, adding that violators would be subject to a hefty fine.

"This bill will section off a piece of the Internet neighborhood and confine adult sites to one location," the Montana senator said.

"It will give parents more tools to protect our kids. Parents should not have to worry about their children surfing into websites for adults -- either on purpose or by accident

Yup...Once Again, the goverment need to step in & teach us how to raise our children, Since we seem to not be able to do the job ourselfs.

I wonder what could be next ???...Maybe an implant in your kids hands, So this way when they access the internet & other stuff they'll be forced to scan there hands to get "on-line" ????

Hmmm, why does that sound familiar for some reason...:scratchin ...lol

mike, im not a democrat.

and, democrat or republican, no politican likes porn. im not surprised at all, especially looking at where these guys are from (montana and arkansas) I believe. also, all politicians like $$$, who knows if these guys were lobbied. considering we're they are from and the fact they are a minority, i think they could've come cheap.

So ... we have some Democrats having a news conference saying that adult material should be pushed off to a .xxx TLD.

On the other hand, you have Republicans opposed to the .XXX TLD because they would rather just outright ban porn entirely, and if they got to put some folks in jail along the way that would be gravy.

Nope. I don't see a difference between the two parties.

whats interesing is many webmasters take the stance "i dont how they can do this" - "how can they tell us how to raise our children" - "its protected free speech, they cant do that"...

im pretty confident if you did a survey, most americans would very well like this idea. people forget no one could give a fuck about porn, even the people who frequently visit it, how willing do you think they would be to speak up for porn? legislation like this is easy for politicians to come up with, there will be very few opponents FOR porn if any, and the upside is great for them from a political standpoint. i honestly expect it to get passed, a lawsuit to follow, and hopefully the FSC can prove it's unconstitutional because of the 1st amendment. the only thing that would stop it would be if the religious organizations spoke out against .xxx like the first time.

and contrary to popular belief of whats going around, there has been no allowed pre-registration of .XXX even though its been advertised: http://icmregistry.com/pre-registration.html.

Five surgeons

Five surgeons are discussing which patients make the best surgical
candidates.

The first surgeon says, "I like to see accountants on my operating
table.
When you open them up, everything inside is numbered."

The second ! responds, "Yeah, but you should try electricians!
Everything
inside them is color coded."

The third surgeon says, "No, I really think librarians are the best;
everything inside them is in alphabetical order."

The fourth surgeon chimes in. "You know, I like construction workers.
Those
guys always understand when you have a few parts left over at the end.
And
if the job takes longer than you said it would, no big deal."

But the fifth surgeon topped them all. "You're all wrong. Politicians
are
the easiest to operate on. There's no guts, no heart, no balls, no
brains
and no spine. And on top of that, the head and the ass are
interchangeable."

Mike,

First off, I don't have to tell you that this is "all politics" - you have been saying it yourself for years. I don't support .xxx at all. These Senators are choosing to bring up this bill for whatever reasons they have.

It won't change a thing - Free Speech issue - and I don't think it will even pass or get to the house for a vote anyways..

How many Democrat sponsored bills have gotten passed since 2001, not many if any - will have to research that btw.

Porn and "Child" Safety is always a winner for politicians no matter what side of the aisle your on :(

But the dems overall are better in supporting privacy rights, 1 ammed. issues, free speech, etc, etc.

God bless the dems and the aclu :)
