I have been looking into DRM, but it seems the bad outweighs the good

I stumbled across some conversations about using flash for members area videos, and to be honest the possibilities are amazing me

here this sums it up

The coolest part about the new wave of flash video is you can present a high quality video inside of a branded player that allows the member to have on his desktop all the movies he wants to download from your site.

He can play it full screen or whatever he wants. The video using Flash 8 (On2 V6) is higher quality and smaller than WM9.

But, even though he doesn't have to login or even visit the website through a browser, the flash player can authenticate him every month to make sure his card has rebilled.

I don't know about you but when I was a surfer If I had the option of watching and storing porn on my computer without having to login I would. It's a great way of covering your tracks.

This can also be done with On2's VP7 codec which is actually better quality than Flash 8 but an extra install is necessary, but I don't think it's as convenient as the new wave of flash.

Hmmm.. you've piqued my interest. Do you have somewhere where you have seen this in action to check out?

give me a few days to play with this flash codec, it seems to be a little harder to tweak than windows media

the first tests have been great though, what was normally a 48mb mpeg is now a 24mb flash video, same quality too!

I would have to agree that Flash video could very well be the future of online video...When you consider alone the fact it plays back in PC and Mac environments without hassles or headaches it makes Flash a choice every webmaster should consider. I believe so strongly in Flash video that we’ve been putting together a VOD solution that uses the .FLV codec over at CyberNet Digital which we will be releasing to the public later this month along with another solution that should prove to be very popular with webmasters….A social networking (i.e. My Space) solution with integrated Flash video that would allow site users to upload video files of any type, convert them on the fly to .FLV, and then display them on the site. Users that submit their videos can even choose to makes their movies freely available or set a sale price that would require other users to pay to view the submission.

If anyone else here is interested in Flash video and would like to see a demo of the solution or just talk shop about using Flash video feel free to contact me anytime.

Peace

Edd, who used to work for me and help moderate this board was a HUGE proponent of Flash for video. It definately is the future, one reason I think Adobe bought Macromedia.

Edd is a Flash God. And one of the funniest guys I never got to meet.

Somebody ignite the O signal for Edd... he is truely missed.

The videos I saw loaded and played back quicker smoother than any other format I have seen. :okthumb:

There is an Explorer update that could cause some problems with flash. There is some JacaScript workaround right now. Nothing I've messed with yet but something you should take a look at if you use a lot of flash.

I believe that there is already a work around for that

Yea, I think there are a few workarounds but just wanted to throw that info out there.

No problem, here's another potential fix someone passed along to me this morning.
