I'll begin.
When most people talk about making money online, they talk about traffic. I think these people are idiots.
When I talk about making money, I talk about content. The only thing that attracts traffic, is content.
Bad content = bad traffic.
Good content = good traffic.
People want to break down traffic by niches, types of sources - TGP, type-ins, mail, etc. All that doesn't matter worth a damn, because if the content rocks then the traffic will be there.
Now don't get me wrong, you can't have $$ without traffic. But the ultimate draw for your traffic HAS to be your content, or you will not see ultimate success.
Discuss.
So what factors would you look for in good content, then?
If you're talking about level of photography skills then I'd agree that yes good content = good traffic, however there are some great photographers out there, who photograph beautiful women, and apply far too much photoshop to the image, to the point that the girl is verging on looking like a mannequin...
Also, if we're going by who's a better photographer, how would you explain the amateur category? I'm not talking amateur porn star, but amateur photography skills etc. Some people out there really go for the "home video" look, or there's the voyeur fetish too... There's going to be a visible difference in quality of photo if you have a guy laying on the floor with a high res cam pointed up a girl's skirt, than if you want to go for a "spy-cam" type look.
I guess I'd say that great content is relative to what people are looking for. If it suits the purpose, then it is great content, but I'm still curious what you would consider "Good content"?
I'll begin.

Your post is appalling and apparent with just that sentence, much less the next
I've spent hundreds if not thousands of hours seaching for quality content

And did you find any?

well, anyone can have good or bad traffic, the quality of content plays no part in that....but I think having good content gives you consistant quality traffic...i don't think that made sense
anyway
I do not agree that the traffic will be there. I have worked on quality sites before with kickass content, and the traffic didn't just magically appear. traffic, whether good or bad, takes a LOT of work
ultimately, I personally think that the basis of a good site is a equal ratio of good traffic and good content...together, both are the most important
i don't think I am making much sense, I need some caffeine

Actually you made great sense to me! :) But then again, I probably need some caffeine too LOL

Go ahead and find it appalling. I don't write the rules of business, I'm just conveying the message.
I find it appalling that you make this "insightful" initial post, and then can't answer any of the questions I put forth.

Good content = Lots of good traffic.
Why?
Because eventually all the smoke, mirrors and any other tricks employed the quality and quantity of your traffic relies on one thing. The amount of money affiliates make and this is reliant on the conversion ratios which come from the product you sell. PORNO.
If you have bad content you will be getting bad conversion ratios and will be forever trying to find and keep affiliates. Plus there is so much poor, mediocre porn on the Net a good site stands out.
Sin, photography (good or bad) is not pornography and we all make money from pornography in this business. I'm one of the top teen pornographers in the business and could not earn a dime as a photographer.
The skills of producing amateur porn has nothing to do with camera skills or a good or bad photography.
Good point Jace, whether you have good or bad site you still need to work it. But a site with good content will provide better returns for the same work than a site with bad content. Other things being equal.
The situation here is most people on the Adult Net have excellent programming, site building, design, etc. skills. But how many have skills at porn? For those without those skills they have no options but to drive traffic.

Can you show me the sites that you have with good content thats making money without worrying about traffic?

I love this board, I can ALWAYS learn something new. :)
Hadn't thought of it from that angle before, Paul. Thanks!

From an affiliate point of view....
Traffic is much more important. The sponsor has to have good, up to date, content in order to keep the members but I, as an affiliate, want to just push as many surfers to the sponsor as I can.
This can be accomplished with content but it can be accomplished many other ways too. The danger of me using too good or too much content is that the surfer might just decide that they like my site and want to stay there, so I can't offer too much content and I purposely degrade the quality of my content because I want them wanting more. "Hey, you want the good stuff, click here because if you stay here you will just get more of this blurry crap to use to try to figure out if it makes you horny or not"
Anyway, just imho of course
pssss ....... content is much more than just pictures
Look at CNN.com for a prime example
Without traffic nothing happens, traffic has always been and will always be far more important
Build the greatest whatever in the world and if no one sees it nothing can be sold
Content is more important in retaining customers, traffic or what have you
Build a piece of shit and throw all the traffic in the world at it and very few (if any) return

But make their eyes bleed enough and they might click anything to get the fuck off of there :yowsa:

That's the idea when you're an affiliate ;-)
Get them to where you can make $$$ quick as possible
Or anyone for that matter

This is the old chicken and the egg debate that comes up periodically.
You really need both if you're in the paysite business. But if someone offered me my choice of a unlimited never ending supply of top quality A++ content OR a never ending supply of a few million hits per day. I take the traffic every time.
I'll FIND a place to send it that converts it. It's easier to find places that can convert good traffic than it is to find good traffic to feed sites with good content.

Excellent point...! (I'm tired, maybe I'll elaborate on my thoughts when they've clarified lol)

Content is the maintenance, and all the rest packing for it.

Mixed bag of answers on this one. Been producing since 1998 for the internet and content needs and 'whats good' changes every year.
What I have noticed is some of the exclusive content i shoot for programs kicks ass for them and some programs like xbang cash crash and burn.
Content is a small piece of the equation. Without quality traffic, the right affiliates, constant updates, etc. no amount of content of any quality will do any good
PS: After 2 years, my new content store is now open :)
