If someone is incorporated in the US but host their sites in another country, do these laws still apply?

If a US company also has or does business in another country where they also host. Do these laws still apply?

I’m just not clear on all of this.

My understanding of it is that as a US citizen you are under US laws and must abide by the law.

Or if you want to do any business with Us citizens.

huh? well actually that's like saying that a company in europe that allows US subscribers to join must abide by our laws?

See there are some things that are just not clear. I was hoping some people here could shed some light on this topic.

Good luck to you then. Im sorry my answer wasnt the one you were looking for.

Chris Wilson thought he could move his server offshore and play this game too... he ended up in jail and now is banned from ever operating an adult site ever again.

My sincerest advice is to go ahead and get a damn good lawyer if your going to choose now to play this game.

I'm sorry if I appeared rude. I'm just curious more then anything esle. I'm fine where I am and this isn't such a huge issue with me. I've been in discussion with a few people and obviously the nature of the content we publish (bdsm) is always in question.

Wasn't Chris Wilson involved with other issues like tax evasion and illegal content? I forget. Wasn't he already a wanted man?

Thanks

you best thing to do, is hire a lawyer and have him answer all the questions you need. Forum advice isn't the best thing to get in the world because everyone has something different to say

fact remains though, no matter where you live if you do business with people in the USA, you should have your 2257 docs up to date.

i would guess that it would be determined by the business structure and how its all put together. you are american and bound by US law... however, i fail to see how a properly structured business, that does not exist in the US, does not bill in the US and does not host in the US and has no real presence in the US makes you personally liable for anything if you were just an employee or independent contractor for that company. For example, if a big European adult company hires you to work for them... are you responsible for their compliance with 2257 rules just because you work for them and happen to be american? no.

there is no shortcut however to doing things like this. its expensive to do it right and you need good tax attorneys.

Chris was just being an idiot and obviously acting without the advice of attorneys.
