Yes, it's sad. What's even sadder is that 7 kids shouldn't have been in that car. I'm not saying the truck driver isn't to blame, but if the car wasn't there, the kids would still be alive.
With a speed limit of 60, I wonder if the car had brake lights.

I've wondered the same. I'd like to read the full story if it's ever published about this. I am sure they are having a pretty difficult time deciding who was actually in the car right now with what pieces they probably have left. 15 year old driving though...that sounds like the kids took one of the relative's cars out joy riding. Tragic.

I dunno.
If I would have had any joyriding days...cough...I think I'd have been taking them with my buds, not loading 6 of my sibs up for a cruise.
Sad thing, no matter what.

Any bets on the family whose kid was illegally driving the car (and illegally had too many people in it) suing the driver of the truck? And wanna bet the other family members will join in instead of suing the parents of the girl driving?
And there were originally EIGHT kids in the car - she had dropped one off. And one of the relatives is defending her. I wouldn't be surprised if Mommy and Daddy OK'd her driving around.
It's sad mostly because it could have been prevented with just a small amount of common sense :(

I'm a little confused here. Maybe you people are reading a different article than I am, but I see no factual basis for making any assumptions on what caused this accident.
From what I read, the vehicle was stopped behind a school bus - so, since "...[t]he accident occurred in good weather along a straight stretch of road...", I'm not sure whether the brake lights are all that relevant. The truck speed at impact was sufficient to drive the "... bus ... 200 feet from where the car struck it." (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,182809,00.html)
Nothing I read in that article suggested that the underage driver was at fault in this accident.
It is certainly possible that the vehicle had no brake lights.
It is most definitely equally possible that the driver was cranked up on meth, drunk on his ass, running twenty minutes late and trying to make a delivery, or that solar fucking flares caused a brake malfunction in the truck.
Yeah the article made it pretty clear that the girl driving the car was not at fault, but what interests me is was it a -car- or was it a minivan??? How exactly does one legally fit that many people into a vehicle again??
Its too bad they died I guess, but if she wasn't supposed to be driving without an adult (which she was) and had over the legal limit of occupants (which is would appear she did, unless said "car" was in fact a minivan) then it would seem to be natural selection of a sort....

No PD, you're correct, nothing even remotely suggests that the underage driver was at fault at all. I think that it just seems more preventable when you think of it in terms like that. i.e., 15 year old not driving around in the first place = kids all safe at home.
Then again, it was their time. If it hadn't been that car crash then the house they were all in would have exploded, mass murderer broke in the house and killed them all, etc etc etc.

No, I see no where that says the 15 year old was at fault for the accident. But the fact remains that she shouldn't have been on the road and she shouldn't have had that many kids in the car. Period. If she and the other kids hadn't been there, they probably would be alive right now.
And her aunt (I think - too lazy to read it again) is defending the fact that she was driving.
And I don't even want to get into the fact that with 8 kids in a car it's doubtful the 21 month old was in a car seat.........

In another sad twist to this story, the grandfather dies of a heart attack upon hearing the news.

Damn that family must have pissed off a voodoo priest or something. That's just nuts.
Now THAT bit about the grandpa, that makes me sad... :(
