I really like Holland the two times I was there.

But one thing is quite important, Amsterdam is not Holland, Holland is not Amsterdam...

Amsterdam is unique. Personally, I like both, but the rest of Holland is more suited to my quiet personality. Beautiful scenary, very friendly people.

Package deal. Somewhat offensive. :yowsa:

Mike, I know you are only going for the tulips and wooden shoes. I sure hope Katie gets to do some things she would like though :)

Come on, you know me. I am interested in history, architecture, and food. Katie I believe is focused only on sex, drugs and rock & roll.

I will also be in Paris for 2 weeks before going to Holland. So I am up for suggestions as well. What to see, where to eat, drink, etc...

We are looking for apartments now - so if you have helpful info - post it -0 or e-mail.

thanks Dr.G for the insight and pictures.

You will not find decent food in 'dam, you can scratch THAT out...unless LittleC be kind enough to take you to her favorite Indonesean restaurant..THAT is a VERY special treat, BEG her for that like you would beg to see her nipples from 6" distance

I had a couple good meals in Amsterdam.

...of course one of them was a restaurant chosen by Werner, so you may be right ;)

and yes, most of the Dutch I've met so far were great. Of course, when I stayed there a bit, couple of years ago, I was with a local, so that helps.

Yeah Serge is right, food sucks, i hated food in a'dam
My favorite food there was Chinese, i cant go wrong with Chinese no matter where i go.
Tjone once took me to a great Indonesean place, the food was the bomb but i dont know the name of it.

Hey Mike, if you're going to France than A'dam you might as well bring some french food with you or eat enough to last you through the A'dam trip :)

As Dr Guile put it... Holland is pretty amazing and really nice. The center of Amsterdam is not Holland and in my opinion is dirty and gross and definately not fun unless for very long unless your ultra conservative ass sudenly likes sitting at sidewalk cafes watching late teen, early 20 something drug addicts/tourists walk around babbling about which coffee shop has the best dope or being followed around by black guys trying to sell you coke and x. :)

this was cool... went to holland once just for Floriada

This is a nice place to eat in the center of the city
http://www.thegrand.nl/cr_menu.html

Good hotel aswell.

There's a Rembrandt-Caravaggio exhibition at the Van Gogh Museum until the middle of June and the Rijksmuseum is an amazing place.

Do try to get out of Amsterdam, Somewhere like Hoorn or Edam/Volendam just for a half day.

I have no idea... something dutch ;)

It was a public gallery pretty much in the middle of Amsterdam, but since we had a Dutch friend showing us around, I didnt always know where I was ;)

Did you have the chance to see the little closed community in Amsterdam? It's a small alcove with ancestral houses and a great little church. I really wish I could remember the name of that...

I would definitely recommend seeing that Mike..... the thing I cant name ;)

Houses in Begijnhof are still occupied by single women, so please respect their privacy and be quiet.

Yeah, that's a perfect place for Mike to visit....they'll quite him down and turn him into Liberal

Mike,

Save your time and money, Don't visit Paris. It's really not as romantic as people say, or it wasn't for me anyways. Then again, I spent most of the 2 weeks I was there in the hotel room with my russian g/f/future ex-wife. The Louvre was facinating however.

I love Paris. Been there 8 or 9 times. Great city.

Paris is JR approved :)
