and not be stealing or shaving ?
I mean even a good account has to pay 6 - 7 % processing so now they are left with 13% gross margin.
less hosting/bandwith
customer Service/affiliate issues
Graphics
Promo material
content
content management
Fraud control
etc....
I mean can someone please explain a rational formula for this to be possible ?

What she said. You have to make sure you are masters at getting money from those types of things though.
Well since I (Cloud 9 CAsh http://www.cloud9cash.com ) have offered 80% payout promotions in the past I'll shed a little light on it
I did it to get new affiliates and would only offer it for a month (February only 28-29 days) in years past
The key having your own traffic. Expenses are in place for hosting, content, customer service and so on. Those obligations have to be met anyway
For discussions sake let's say I pay 13% for processing and have a 5% holdback. That leaves me operating on a 1% profit margin. My expenses are already incurred so doing a 80% payout is fine short term to get more affiliates
This year I am considering something entirely different for a February promotion ..........
...... $24 PPS
Plus once members are in there are ways to additionally monetize ;-)
and traffic can always make money, if you find the right combination

Same way you do PPS with cheap trials.
And you may or may not remember there are/were some 100% programs back in the day. Also, pay attention as to whether the 80% is 80% of gross or 80% after transaction fee's. If it's after transaction fee's, then you can actually have a small margin of profit.
Standard answer is upsells, cross sells, exits, email addresses, etc are what you gain.
In reality, I think the real secret is that you're using it to draw webmasters and traffic. You're not making money on your signups, so you have to have a plan to make money off that base of webmasters in another way. And/or you have to have a way to make money off all that traffic that does NOT buy anything.

I know there are honest programs out there (and yes I still believe in Santa lmao) no but realy, I have always had a bit of a prob with the PPS and high high revshare %'s.
I totaly understand the entire concepts of business, but really, how long can a program pay out $50.00 per $30.00 dollar sale??
Don't bother saying "Rebills Rebills Rebills" cause thats the answer that is always given, but am I expected to believe that EVERY sale you get will rebill at least twice? nope sorry I don't.
Why not, well I made sales from the rev-share side and not all rebilled, so I know that not all of my PPS rebilled either.
long story short, (God I ramble like a retard) You can't loose $20.00 per sale for too long before you HAVE to cheat and shave.
We also used to offer 100% for our first year, then I realized it and quickly fixed it I still get teased for that shit.

Shaving is just theft. You can dress it up, but it is theft.

I disagree, I've explained the bare bones on how it can be done
There is about a 10% shave using CCBill but have expressed that about 20 times here in the past and didn't exprees it again

If you do a good business there should never be a need to steal from those who work for you, Vick.
Personally, I think that all these promotions are desperation measures. Just buy traffic from hard working people. Be honest. Work with honest folks. Make money.
I know I will hear a tirade about those who are stinking wealthy....lol, yeah right...by doing this. However, it seems that a lot of them are stealing money from their affiliates by all accounts of what gets posted here.

It never ceases to amaze me how people are obsessed with a % figure. Getting 1% or 200% per sign up is nothing. It's about what you actually bank that pays the bills.
How many look at it from the angle of "I work 1 hour sending traffic to ZXYcash and earn $50 or I work 1 hour and earn $100 sending traffic to YXZcash"?
This is what really matters. If they are paying out 80% on all joins they are losing money or cutting corners elsewhere. Those cut corners could effect the conversion ratio.
How many would send traffic to a site paying 80% and converting 1:1,000 rather than a site paying 50% and converting at 1:500? The numbers are examples but the principle remains.
Good point Paul about measuring earnings but (as I've already stated here) the 80% payout can be done without losing revenue or stealing
But (for me) it's not a long term solution. It's viable for a short term promotion to get more affiliates into the program

LOL, you guys crack me up. The real measure is your lifestyle. Fuck the per centages. Fuck the affiliates and blah blah blah. What kind of house do you live in? What do you do with your spare time and how much of that do you have? Do you really look at the prices on the menu? And do you get laid by great women?
End of freeking story.

If your site retains very well, then 80% revshare is going to attract a lot of webmasters. You make your profit off the recurring database that continually grows

I disagree.
The majority of the major players with major traffic will only send traffic to PPS programs.
It's a simple fact that most will take a clean shaven $35 pps over an honest rev share regardless of the percentage.
