tomorrow I am off to the computer shop to find a external laptop hard drive case to see if I can salvage the data on the drive

but it looks to be a motherboard failure, I am working it out with gateway now to see if they will take it back out of warranty because apparently it is a huge problem that everyone is having

but anyway, I am off the chats for a few days and only answering email, and checking the boards

like I told gonzo, if anyone sees one of those huge companies at internext giving away laptops, grab one for me!

Ouch sorry to hear that bro, but I feel your pain.

This laptop has been flaking out over the last month or so, shutting off from getting too hot, mis-reading memory, and slower then 2 old farts fucking lol.

As soon as i can set aside 3 days to transfer all my data to a backup machine I can take this one in to be fixed or just swap it out for a new one, then take 3 more days moving the data back, so yeah

lol I don't think thats the case (And hell i'm stoned right now lol)

Mine is a Toshiba Satalite, the memory error from what the techs tell me is pretty commen, as this model is shared memory between video & board, however even after changing the settings for what gets shared the laptop still tends to error on the memory.

I miss the fuck out of my old Dell, that thing went through hell and back, yet like a timex watch it kept on ticking lol, it had 14 missing keys, broken hinges so the screen had to be propped up with a 2 liter bottle, caked mud on the screen (live broadcast incident lol) and had pretty much been beaten up like tina turner (ouch)

dropped, kicked, flown off a table, mud splattered, water issues, etc.

in the end a chip fried and pretty much took out the entire system with a power surge lol, but it lasted through it all, next time I get down the road to my cottage I'll grab it and take some pics it's still lives in the closet lol.

as fun as that sounds right about now, I have to try and get it going again, or at least save the data on the hard drive

Get one of those USB fan bases. Might not solve your other problems, but it will at least help with the heat :(

working on it now, got STELLAR PHOENIX and it seems to be doing a awesome job so far, been scanning for an hour though, no clue when it will be done

I am going to try and recover everything off the drive, we shall see how that goes

Oh, I hate that shit.

And it's hard to keep a notebook backed up all that well. I use a one touch external maxtor to sync mine, but dont do it near as often as I should.

well, what I should be doing is using my desktop and shit for my email, and just use the laptop for it's intended purpose, to be mobile...but I got into the routine of using it for everything because it was nice and powerful

now everything from my outlook is fizzled fried

live and learn

all desktop files from the old drive have been retrieved with no loss

working on my Outlook email file now, looking good so far

just so everyone knows, I tried 3 different programs before ending up with this, BY FAR it is the best recovery software I have ever used:
