I went and saw the new King Kong movie on Sunday. I thought it was great! Much better dinosaur special effects than Jurrasic Park.

Oh... and I had tears flowing at the end...

How many folks on here still actually go to a real movie theater?

I haven't been in one in ... over a decade at least.

Dravyk, people like you, who do not drive American cars to the movie theaters are the one who are responcible for downfall of our auto industry!

I haven't been to one in probably twice that long or more. My date has a tendency to point out how many movies we could watch in the comfort of our own home for the price of two tickets. I also hate crowds. The popcorn used to be the big draw until the microwave popcorn people got their stuff together and you can even get that at home now. I also don't feel the need to see any movie 15 minutes after it's been released.

We have a first-run drive in here, though. That's fun to go to.

;) LOL!

Last time I went to a drive-in theater, it was full of people with folding tables of brica-brak. :)

We still have drive ins here too although I don't go much

I do however go to movie's all the time. With the size of screens these days and much better speakers than i have at home, it can be a pretty mindblowing experience for some flicks.

Mind you I only go to a theatre to see movies with a lot of special effects and great sound that is meant to be loud.

Things like Batman begins, the new superman (which I can't wait for), Kong, etc etc. These are movies that are MEANT to be seen in theatres.

Yeppers. :)

There's only a few, but we're lucky enough to live by one. It's fantastic. Speakers are a thing of the past, you pull the sound in on your car radio. They have a section in the back for "big vehicles," so you're never stuck behind somebody's van in a small car. (We have a VW bus, so we park in the back.) It's a two screen theater and they try and match the movies up so you don't end up with "Shrek 2" followed by a slasher flick. First run movies, too. Wowzers.

During the day on weekends, it's a swap meet. A really good swap meet, too. The first Saturday of the month is "Electronics Day." Stuff like that. I can't tell you the number of times we've turned "lack of space" into "folding money" there. I used to turn the 25 cent books into $2 books on eBay once upon a time. I imagine that the swap meet helps the drive-in stay a drive-in, although every time I've gone it's been busy.

I think drive-ins are the perfect way to see a movie. We can talk, bring in our own munchies, smoke, and not worry about somebody trying to shove past on the way to the rest room. I really don't understand why they're a dying breed.

I did the same thing (back when I would go), only to see those movies where the experience and sound would make a difference. Think the last movie I saw on "the big screen" was Independence Day ... definitely can't be compared to watching at home!

Chris, that often? Cooool.

Morgan, damn that sounds pretty cool. Anything here that might be left IS a flea market. :(

Well, I work from home and I am on my computer or in front of my cam (still on the computer) all the time. Its my life.

I really do like to get out of the house some times. We all need to!

My ideal Out of box entertainment is usually this:
movie theaters
classy restaurants
dinner theaters
quiet coctail lounges
casino
shopping
beauty spas

And I would rather jump into a tank of piranas than ever go into a nightclub...

I totally enjoyed the movie also, that 3 hours went by very quickly ..:-))

We also work from home and find going to the movies a great way to relax. If we are home it is too easy to 'just pop into the office to finish something up" !!!. We would go to the movie about twice a month depending on what is being released. BUT wait the theatres we go to have recliners, food/drink service to your seat, full sized screen and only 32 other bodies in there with you.

I like to actually get out and mingle with other people and hit movies witha crowd. I know everyone loves to complain about the moviegoing experience and while I have my share of gripes, I really enjoy getting out.

Back to the topic at hand: I really enjoyed the movie. I could have handled 20-25 minutes chopped off the first act, but I liked everything from the acting to the story to the tech stuff like special effects and just the way Peter Jackson frames a movie.

Watched it this evening. Thought it was longer than it needed to be TBH. Special effects for the most part v impressive but a bit ropey in parts. Got very emotional towards the end, kinda hard to watch when you know what's coming, it makes it really sad :(

I rarely go unless it's something I really, really want to see. Other than that I don't bother because I don't like crowds either. The only time I deal with a crowd is at a concert because it's usually group I can get a long with.

hahaha, There is still a drive-in in Vegas with 6 screens. It's pretty cool too, you can just tune your radio in your vehicle to their station and pick up the sound. If you have a good stereo system the movies are even better than the Theaters.
