It looks like January 19th will be the day for watching C-SPAN.

The Senate Commerce Committee has mapped out more than a dozen hearings for the early part of 2006 to focus on broadcast, telecommunications and Internet-related issues.

First up for the full committee will be a Jan. 19, double header on decency and pornography. The first hearing, slated for 10 a.m., will cover the general topic of decency; no other details for that session were available from the committee's Website. An afternoon session will focus on Internet pornography.

It would be nice if I thought anything other than politcal posturing would occur. Or that they would take a position that wasn't politically motivated and really protected free speech rights while protecting the publc as well.

Do you really think ti will be anything other than political posturing on the evils of porn, hollywood, and game makers?

I wonder if they'll be as exciting as the one two weeks ago? http://oprano.com/msgboard/images/smilies/sleep3.gif

Here's Jon Stewart's take on it: http://www.comedycentral.com/motherload/?lnk=v&ml_video=35954&source=OD_VIDEO:The+Daily+Show:Indecent+Proposal#

TE...sadly, it will be nothing but political posturing. Two of the vaguest words in the English language are to be debated: "decency" and "pornography." Frankly, when I read "decency" I went  . Huh? Frankly, I think "decency" in telecommunications would be having a real person answer the phone in customer service and not a machine, but that's just me.

I'm thorougly sick and just a little tired of "government bashing." Unfortunately, topic after topic after topic seems to arise where there isn't anything left to do except bash the government.

Can anybody tell me in a couple of short sentences why the US thinks it can control the global Internet???

The US has always thought of itself as the world police, the internet is just another area to be in charge of.

Big time questions on the comma, my writer babe. :)

You're right, of course. We be the "World Police Without A Fucking Clue." If *I* resent like hell the US's attempts to control the Internet, I can only imagine what the global community feels.

Our tax dollars go toward the damndest things. What a waste this is.

My television turns the fuck OFF. So does my computer.

And my kids never learned any foul language that could TOUCH the shit they learned at the bus stop. That prissy "my kid's sweat don't stink" up the street turned out two little girls with the filthiest mouths ever seen on an elementary school student. Even MY kids were impressed. That's saying something. :)

TE...the public doesn't need "protecting." The public needs to grow a fucking brain. :(

Hey why not since they already have attempted to control Space.
