As far as with the video patents, I have not heard anything in a while. I think they are waiting on court dates and all the discovery. As of Nov 18 the news referred to it as "Acacia is involved in ongoing litigation over these patents with several adult entertainment, cable and direct broadcast satellite
companies which refused to enter license agreements."

Think they have been spending their time going after universities.

Also found this (it might be the reason for the current high):

US District Court Finding Could Potentially Invalidate Acacia Patent Claim

- A Klixxx Staff Report
December 12, 2005

A patent owned by a subsidiary of Acacia Research Corporation was found potentially invalid last week by a US District Court. The Acacia subsidiary was in process of suing 25 cable companies, 18 Internet-based companies and 2 satellite companies for allegedly infringing upon patents it claims to own, covering streaming media over the Internet.

However, the court's findings showed that 3 our of the 22 terms of "digital media transmission" patents that are owned by Acacia Media Technology Corporation were "indefinite," which means that could potentially invalidate the entire DMT patent. As a result, in future legal cases that would mean that Acacia has one fewer patent to utilize in its claims against digital media based businesses.
