Mkay, so I've been having a look around for some stock photo's for a little design filler.

People and places all reasonably priced... then I take a look at trees and sky and we're talking $55+ per low res image... are they insane?... who thinks of these prices?

Well, I'll tell ya.

I can get you some tree and sky content (real good stuff) completely exclusive to you for probably about $50.00 a pic. Prices are up cause it's a really hot niche right now. So, grab it when you can get it :okthumb:

If you've seen one tree, you've seen both of them (Secretary of the Interior James Watt circa 1985 while lobbying for the complete paving over of the United States of America)

Well... I was going to refer you to http://www.sxc.hu/ it "was" a great site for actual free stock photos submitted by photographers. But it looks like they're switching to a pay service :(

On that note :nothingto

Dude, we are talking virgin forest stuff here man. These trees have never been seen by anyone. Totally fresh, green to the industry. You climb on one of these babies and they will take you to heights you never imagined :okthumb:

The National Forestry Service has you on a "watch list," sarettah. You're frightening the trees.

No ... the Sierra Club may have him on a watch list.

Under the current administration, the National Forestry Service has him on a prospective list for upper-level management.

Try there, if you haven't already.

I've only bought from there a couple of times, but the images were very reasonably priced in comparison to other sites I checked.

The fact that the above made terrible sense to me frightens me a little.

blah, I have great shots of some eastern european trees...they are a little on the thin side, but that's what tree surfers are looking for these days...plus only $12.50 for a set of 3 pics...I sale them very cheaply

Damn, now SXC.hu has bitten the dust too! http://oprano.com/msgboard/images/smilies/sad.gif

Yes, photo rates are freaking horrible! http://oprano.com/msgboard/images/smilies/mad.gif

For this very reason I created a year ago the Royalty Free Image Archive (http://www.mainstreamwebmasters.com/modules.php?name=4nAlbum) as a place to go for free images for site making. Haven't pushed it very much though of late (til now.)

If anyone has some photos they would like to contribute, please PM me. Thanks. http://oprano.com/msgboard/images/smilies/smile.gif

Trev, there's some nature photos in there I know. But I'm also sitting on a hundred mostly-nature pics (lots of trees) that need to be uploaded into there as well. If you can't find what you need, hit me up and I'll get those contributions into the system. http://oprano.com/msgboard/images/smilies/smile.gif

Sysprod, I used to use sxc, it was only a matter of time before they thought about cashing in. :(

Selena, thanks for the link, istock seems to be very reasonably priced, I like the credits scheme. :)

Newton, tell me about it, I remember being able to find hundreds of sites offering out free pics for site design... this internet sucks... people charging money for pictures, whatever next :yowsa:

Dravyk, you've just become my favourite person :okthumb: ;)

Might be time to get the camera back out Amen! Got a digitial camera a few months ago for a few reasons. One for a new project. For another, to shoot some of my stuff to use for mainstream sites. I'll even toss some shots into the Royalty-Free Archive soon.

Btw, Trev, didja find what you needed? LMK.

Trev, you're in England, right?

Go into your nearest "branch" of Staples and go for the budget software section... they always have like 20,000 stock photos for £4.99 on the racks next to the 4,000 Fonts and the 50,000 Clip Art images CDs.

If you are nowhere near a Staples, then PM me and I'll give you a link to a place that sells these packages over the net. :)

Because her photography is excellent.

Because her photography is excellent. There's a lot of cool avatars in their shot by CJ. Which I'm quite grateful for!

As to photos by her in that section, nope. She wanted to keep something for herself exclusively, and I certainly can't blame her for that!! Do check out the avatars by her though. Very cool and unusual and striking! :)

Trev, ahh, excellent!!! (Just wrote you a PM a moment ago in fact to make sure you found what you needed. I really have to get this other bunch of photos batch uploaded into there!! Always just a matter of finding the time.)

Yep, CJ's photography makes you wanna go out and buy a digital SLR.

But then again, you could stay in and buy one online...
