The cable co. I'm with (shaw) has parental controls built into their system, the buttons to work it are right on the remote control that comes with the digital cable unit they provide you.

So, there's no excuse for anyone's precious little darlings watching porn on cable. Which means there's no excuse for wanting to "clean up paid cable"

This is just another case of people wanting to shift responsibility from parents to everyone else. It's the same with the internet, there are those who would love to turn the entire internet into one big virtual disneyland where everything is benign and happy and safe for kiddies. After all, why should parents have to watch their kids when the whole world can babysit for them?

I'm never at my best in a dentist's waiting room, and that is where one of my more interesting public rants occured. One of those "Born Again" types went off on cable TV and how it should be...I don't know, "unplugged," something. But he'd certainly never have it in his house. Off I went. My kids grew up watching PBS, the Learning Channel, the Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, etc., etc. Because of the cooking shows she watched, I had a 9 year old who could deglaze a pan. They knew the brontosaurus had been renamed, which actually caused a teacher to apologize after she looked it up. Cable TV can be like having a constantly revolving library in your house if you use it correctly.

If parents don't use it correctly, then shame on them.

Somewhere, there is a guy who will never open his mouth in a dentist's waiting room again.
