True, and although I don't own one I believe you can't ever buy them outright, like domain names, you have to pay a yearly fee to "retain" them. Fcuking number plates, what do they think they are, lawyers ?

You only have to pay for retention if the plate isn't on a vehicle, if it is then there's nothing to pay.

I've got S1AFC, a xmas prezzie from my dad a few years ago, bought for £3,200 and even though Sunderland are shite it's worth £5k+.

You're talking big money. Plus with the way the new registrations are designed now it's making the plates that have any meaning worth so much more.

I never got the whole personalized license plate thing...

WX38RL5H is so much more difficult to remember for a witness than IMDRUNK after he sees you run someone over when you're wasted on the way home from the pub :p

Come to think of it, when I am shit faced at 3am in the morning - having a red Corvette with ADULT License plates might make it easier to find my car. :)
