Bush about to start intergaactic war with ET according to former Canadian defense minister!

:clapping: I would like to take the time to thank all Candians for the great laugh and for bringing the phrase "Bush's fault" to the next level!!

Hellyer warned, "The United States military are preparing weapons which could be used against the aliens, and they could get us into an intergalactic war without us ever having any warning. He stated, "The Bush administration has finally agreed to let the military build a forward base on the moon, which will put them in a better position to keep track of the goings and comings of the visitors from space, and to shoot at them, if they so decide."

Hellyer’s speech ended with a standing ovation. He said, "The time has come to lift the veil of secrecy, and let the truth emerge, so there can be a real and informed debate, about one of the most important problems facing our planet today."

Let me get this straight ... a nation that can barely supply anything to another country in terms of troops, armament, navy, you name it ... wants to be at the forefront for Intergalactic War?!

I hardly see the relevance of the size of Canada's military to this discussion. Whatever the relative size of the force, if history is any indication they are not someone you'd want to meet on the field of battle.

Canada, after all, was one of the first to volunteer to send its troops to Afghanistan. I know they've lost troops in that conflict, and I think that some of them were even killed by forces other than ours.

I don't personally know anything about ETs. It's one of those subjects that becomes difficult to discuss rationally, mostly due to the outlandish and irrational arguments put forth by many of the people who believe they are out there and/or down here.

As to the genuinely important material in the article - the discussion of an arms race in space - in theory I agree with the idea that it's a bad thing.

As a practical matter, I think there are two chances that argeements, convenants, treaties and/or international organizations formed for the purpose will prevent proliferation - slim and none. Therefore, I hope that the United States ensures that any race that develops is a matter of "them" catching up with "U.S."

I'm with PD on defending the Canadian military, the same way I feel about the Aussies. Whatever war the US has been involved in - or "conflict" if one chooses to call it that - our cousins have been right there...not a coward nor inadequate soldier in the lot.

Due to a writer working on a book about World War II, and my grandfather's love of the camera, the writer contacted him to ask for pics. He also gave my grandfather the name of the Japanese officer who was his equivelent in the Pacific. My grandfather and the Japanese general exchanged letters, then my grandfather flew to Japan to meet him. The Japanese general did some time in an Australian prisoner of war camp, where he proudly stated he made his way up to "head cook." The two were allowed entrance into the Japanese War College. I have a photo somewhere of two old dudes leaning over a map, redoing the war with the fun of kids playing a video game. They also exchanged regimental flags.

I know that story is seriously off topic, but it's one of my favorite comments on war. Watch out for actually meeting your "enemy." You could end up actually liking the guy.

Back to the moon: stay off the Lady, you heathens. Go fight your wars somewhere else, blasphemers.

There's something logical there though you have to admit.
Afterall, if aliens like to anal probe, what better place to look for them than the moon!http://oprano.com/msgboard/images/smilies/butt.gif

You're not possibly being sarcastic about the fact that U.S. troops have been known to get a bit trigger/bomb-release happy and therefore involve U.S. allies in friendly fire incidents that are regretable; came about because the non-U.S. troops were where they said they were, not where we thought they were; not our fault; were caused by poor communications on the part of our allies; we have addressed the problem at the Command Level; and we have courts-martialed several personnel who were convicted, along with several officers who were acquitted, were you?

Something along those lines... except I was going with the US troops being fucking morons and not poor communications on the allies part... :hmm:
