View Full Version : My new little dog!

I have wanted a dog for sooo long. She had to have certain very important qualities...like not terrorizing the cats, be housebroken and be, in general, totally lovable.

The dog my daughters brought down is perfect, and she is now my dog. "Dingo" is half Chihuahua and half Dachshund. The cats are all larger than she is, so "fear" wasn't their automatic response. There was a certain element of "what in the absolute hell is THAT?" though.

It's cute.

Half Chihuahua and half Dachshund - wow. Strange combo ...

However ... the sweater has got to go. No wonder the cats are laughing at it.

At last a dog ( I still suspect it is a strategically shaved rat --- some women think I am though too) , that Technick's dog "BooBoo" might actually be able to beat up.

Morgan, congratulations on your new pet :)

Sorry the earlier post was a knee jerk reaction to small dogs in general.

Actually, she's not afraid of anything. She does tremble a lot, though, which is just a "Chihuahua thing." It was difficult for me to get used to at first, though, as I kept interpreting as fear. This animal is *totally* without fear. She took quite the exception to the grocery delivery guy coming near me and had to be hauled off before he lost a...well, got a scratch on his shoe.

Chihuahuas are tropical animals, though, which means she does get very cold easily. Thus, the sweater. As much fun as it is to work on her "wardrobe," I'd never subject a dog to that unless she actually needed to stay warm. If the sweaters weren't comfortable, she'd merrily remove it.

Cute, sarettah. :hmm:

My husband is on "how's the rat doing?" detail here. (He has to pretend he doesn't like the dog so that his adored cat, Del, doesn't become jealous and surly.) Del worked on hissing, until he realized it made Dingo wave her tail and want to play. Del kept forgetting himself and playing. Poor thing. He was so embarrassed when he got caught.
Nick...the trim on the sweater coordinates wonderfully with the pink blanket on which the dog is lying. I may have reached the "mutiple cat, tiny-dog-in-sweater" stage of life, but I'm a ways away from the "pink furniture" stage. :)

Morgan, congratulations on your new pet :)

Sorry the earlier post was a knee jerk reaction to small dogs in general.

Thank you, moomoomoomoomoomoomoo. :)

Sadly, due to the death of the mother of one of our rescues, grandmother of two others, I could never again have a large dog around my cats. (Sophia was killed by the neighbor's dog.) I wanted a small dog so that I'd never have to worry about the cats being hurt. Luckily, Dingo adores cats...and every one of the cats could smack the crap out of her should the need ever arise. She's so damned happy and friendly, though, that the cats are melting. :)

Kaiser!!! ???

I'd fucking kick your dog!!!!

((an old joke ,to explain..... there used to be a guy online called "Kaiser" who was a convicted pimp and pretty much ripped everyone off or fucked over everyone , he ran Netpond for me back in the day then jumped ship to ANS.Universally hated))

The dog actually looks lovely. But to avoid me kicking it , I'd call it "Bob" should I ever met it ;-)))

I have a german shepherd ( alsation) bitch called Sasha...jet black 140lbs ( thats a huge bitch!!)

Where the hell did the pig snout come from...lol
Cute lil bugger though.
Had several Dashhounds growing up and love them , but the chi chi side of this one watch out for. The trembling is fear, the same as small poodles...thus they attack out of fear.
If it's a trembler its a snapper, watch out for kids.

Domtheboy, Kaiser needs a good brushing

Very true...

LOL

The only other people I've known that knew that about dogs were villains.

"The dogs that yap and bark at me never worry me , its the ones that put there head down look straight at me and start walking purposefully towards me that make me bolt"

Thank you, everyone, not only for the congrats but for sharing the pics of your own "babies." :okthumb:

This dog trembles, but only as the "Chihuahuas do that" thing. She's not afraid of anything. She loves cats. The only "child" she's met so far is the neighbors two month old baby, whom she absolutely adored on site, as she did the mother. She keeps dashing over there whenever she goes out in what is no doubt an attempt to induce them to come out and play some more.

Let's see:

Pushpills...that poor animal got an addition to its 15 Minutes as it passed away recently. I kind of yelped and looked away at the pic on the news. That was the first pic I've seen that fully explained how it won the title. What I'd really like to know is...what on earth happened to that poor animal?

Nick...both my parents had a tendency to what I always called "bumper sticker speak." (Pithy sayings delivered at those moments when a child needs to hear them.) One of my dad's favorites was "never trust anybody that kids and dogs don't like."

meatpounder...I've often wondered about the little pig nose. I have no idea what genetic burp caused that.

Dom...Nick may someday slaughter large groups of humans, but he'd never kick a dog...even one named...thusly. He would call him "Bob," though. :)

Nick...my "grandpuppy," my eldest's daughter's dog, is a huge black German Shepherd. The dog is as big as she is. Unfortunately, being a large purebred, at eight years old the dog is aging and suffering from joint problems. I worry about my daughter. She's a very practical, grounded person...but....

sarettah...yes, I live in San Diego County. I didn't say *I* was cold, I said the dog was, early in the morning. She also loves her sweaters. (She can get out of them on her own should she desire to.) She loves burrowing under the covers in the bed. (The bed that contains two adults and four cats.)

Dingo is currently in Daddy's lap. He's working from home today with a computer hook-up and she's preventing too much work from getting done.

When my daughters et al rescued the dog, she was most unfortunately called "Peanut." Now, it's bad enough being a pocket sized dog...having people rub it in is uncalled for. She was immediately renamed "Dingo," with the thought that a nice Australian wild dog name would give her more dignity. It seems to have done the trick nicely. :)

Dingo has not had one single "asthma attack" since she's been down here. Apparently, whatever was in the air up north didn't agree with her at all.

Why didnt you get a dog instead?

I actually explained that way earlier in this thread. (Totally understandable that you might have missed it, it's a long thread.) :)

I wanted a dog desperately, but the welfare of the cats come first. The horror I have over losing Sophia will never go away, and I'd never take the risk of either a deliberate or accidental act by a larger dog. Dingo adores cats, but even if she got angry or played too rough, the cats could kick the stuffings out of her, so they're safe.
