In another thread here, El Pres said:

Even though they can go onto a nightclub, or a pub with longer opening hours,
probably 80% of establishments that serve/sell alcohol close at 11..
And most people are too pissed to go anywhere else except the kebab shop...
mmmm kebabs. So that got me thinking ... Every place, city, region, country has their own thing.

Where you live, where did or do you go, or where do the folks there go, to eat after a night of drinking?

Here in Philly, it's either to a late-night cheese steak place or a 24-hour diner, usually to get a big breakfast. :)

So what to they do (or you do) where you live for some after-drinking eatin'?

Here its The Pelican...

A "real" chinese restaurant. None of the dayglow shit.

Awesome cheap lobster and crab in a cheesy sauce.
Works whether you are drunk as a fuck or stone cold sober.

There's a tapas bar that opens all night in the oldtown.
Calamaries, pulpo, patatas bravas and grilled chorizo for me..

Perkin's, Country Kitchen, or a local all night diner for breakfast. Nothing I enjoy more though than Perkin's Eggs Benedict!! YUMMY!

Greasy-spoon diners, usually for a breakfast plate (eggs, bacon or sausage, hash browns) covered in chili. Cover the chili with cheese, chopped onions, and hot sause, and accompanied by an order of toast (wheat, of course - gotta keep it healthy) that is both tasty and useful for sopping up the odd pool of grease, it is truly the breakfast of champions.*

Since a lot of my favorite greasy-spoon diners were in neighborhoods others considered risky to go into, however, I've also eaten in my share of factory food outlets (Country Kitchen, Dennys, IHOP, etc). Some truck stops can be as good as a diner, though now days they are more like factory food outlets.

* If you work outside the home, can make you considerably unpopular with co-workers if consumed after drinking on a weeknight.

If we had Waffle Houses in Wisconsin I'd go to those. Man those are good for breakfast!

Redlion and I drove from Vancouver to Orlando and back once.

We were only allowed (some dumb rule we made up) to eat at Denny's whilst on the road.

Gotta go for a big breakfast after a night of partying.
Jersey had some great diners. Out here there is a 24 hour restaurant called The Clock that's the late night eatery. It just can't compare.

Waffle House is a good one, and so is Perkins ... but I like the places with individual character.

We used to go to a place called "Irv's Good Food" at 2:00 a.m., and about half the room looked like they were on thier way to a casting call for extras on the Sopranos. In spite of the fact that the neighborhood around Irv's had deterioriated into a combat zone, there was never a bit of trouble for any of Irv's customers.

During my college days there was a restaurant called Snooky's in town. Best drunk food ever.

The only time I ever did what could even be loosely considered "drinking" was when I worked for Holiday Inn. We'd just go back into the kitchen and have real, Southern biscuits and gravy. That magic substance was fantastic after you'd had a night out.

I heard somebody once say they used to go to White Castle when they were drunk. They could never possibly eat the stuff sober, but it was damned good if you were drunk. (I used to take my kids to White Castle when they were little. Those little bitty hamburgers were perfect for tiny hands.)

Ah, White Castle ... I'll take 20. Been going to White Castle since they used to bring it out to your car. A buddy of mine from high school put himself through Princeton on the money he earned as a car-hop at White Castle in high school.

Nothing is finer for Sunday morning brunch than cold pizza and White Castle hamburgers, washed down with some warm beer. Youbetcha. Belllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllch.

Having been booze free for 436 days.

The main thing I would be eating after a nights drinking would be crow.

It was kind of cool going to a place where you ordered burgers by the sack. :)

We used to spill out of the clubs at about 3:30 am and hit the all night "slice of pizza" place. Road pizza, I used to call it.

Then I'd get to taste it again about 4 hours later.

Are you ever going to be a 'one glass with food man', or is that too tempting?

If it's been a good drink, then it's round to the local curry house for a vindaloo. :D

If it's just been a quiet drink, then it's a pizza from my local pizza shop. :)

I didn't drink for 15 years or something. I tried the "one glass" thing, very worried whether or not it would work, but I have a rather huge assistant in my "one occasional glass" system. The amount of medication I'm on plus too much alchohol equals death. I want to live. I very, very much want to live. Therefore, my "occasional glass" system works.

I'm very rare. The vast majority of people with what are oh-so-politely called "drinking problems" can't touch alchohol ever again when the get sober.

Always gotta have a bite after a long night of drinking. We often hit this pizza place that sells by the slice till 5am, or go to our an all night diner. Or, we'll order a pizza (delivery till 5) about a half hour before we leave the bar. If i've gotta have some catfish or something i'll hit the blues club that keeps on frying em up pretty late. The ladies are recommended one of my "light n' fit" yogurts. I like to mix things up a bit and not go to the same place every time.

It depends on where the drinking occurs...if it's in a casino, then the 24 hour cafe, if it's outside of a casino, then generally the typical Dennys or IHOP

When I used to drink I was introduced to Maid-Rite while in the midwest. Some kind of meat in some kind of sauce on some kind of bread is all I remember about them, but they were awesome for revitalizing the dead :)

Uhhh ... the sauce is usually just the natural juices of ground beef, a.k.a. grease.

A maid-rite is also called a loose-meat sammich, er, sandwich. It's ground beef with chopped onions and a little bit of salt and pepper.

I am from St. Louis, and had only heard of them because of some people from further north. I'm now about 150 miles north of there and they are fairly common.

TE - they got these things around your parts?

My mother used to make my career Army father - and his children - a substanced she called SOS. I really liked it as a child.

I was an adult before I found out that meant "Shit On a Shingle."

When I told my kids that story, they wanted to know what it was, so I made it for them. Damned if they didn't love it, too. Apparently both soldiers and children find it most edible.

Cardiologists disagree, of course.

I mention this because it's the ground beef and toast version of biscuits and gravy and probably great when you've been out drinking.

Thanks for clearing that up PD, I'm amazed that I remembered the name correctly :) I have no memory of what they tasted like but do remember enjoying them. Last time I had one must have been the early 80s.
