OK...some people have wondered what I am up to...

So here goes.......

( beware , longish post coming)

Ages ago I had the idea of opening a church. At the time , It was tongue in cheek and nigh on blasphemous and probably illegal lol

However the thought has always been in the back of my mind (Many of you may know that in my youth I attended a religious school and attended church everyday.)

For some time now I have honestly been thinking of some way to "give back" and this feeling has been further kindled by the spate of disasters around the world.

That said , I am not a very religious man within the strict terms of many of the orgainised churches , but I do consider myself a Christian.

I have been bored with and pretty much to all intents and purposes out of the adult business for some time now.But thankfully the adult business allowed me to hone certain talents.

I have been doing a great deal of research into this mattrer and thus It is my intent to open an online christian forum , manage it and garner traffic to it and orgainse representives of various Christian orgainisations to participate in it.

I am not a minister , however I can bring the adminstrative and management structure and most importantly...traffic to it :)

Thought I should let you know :)

And yes it will earn money , hopefully a great deal because if it does it will mean a great deal of money can go toward nondenominational acts of charity and good works.

I await the mocking :)

Actually that sounds like an excellent idea. There's no reason at all why people can't take control of their own spirituality and express it in their own ways.. How the heck else do a million different religions all based on the same book with the same words in it get formed? Personally, I don't hold with Christianity, but I have a lot of respect for people who don't allow others to control or manipulate what they believe or how they worship. Mocking, far from it. A standing ovation is more like it.

When you told me of this venture in Vancouver, I was a tad skeptical but after getting to know you and the good works ahead, knew that it was something that you truly believed in and needed to do. I was drawn to this, as it provides a way to give back to those who are less fortunate, and in dire need of help through our respective religious beliefs, which is difficult to sometimes maintain in an adult environment. I am honoured and proud to be able to play a small part in this, to help others ..

I think it's pretty cool. I was raised with TOO much religion (IMO) and whereas I'm not a big fan of organized religion (read: churches) I think I'm spiritual. There are churches I enjoy going to and I like going to different types of places and seeing different traditions.

I think the Bible has been rewritten so many times that I don't take everything it says literally but I do believe it was written originally by men of God and I try to "read" what they meant when they wrote it.

I regret not taking my son to church though, but he believed as I do so I hopefully did the right thing.

"Sounds ... interesting," he said skeptically.

The mere discussion of religion brings out an interesting dynamic, even here on Oprano. The vehement attacks on the very idea of a higher power, and the bitter denunciations of organized religion (particularly on the papists) have a zeal about them that is downright religious in nature, and a redundancy that reeks of a dogma learned from an oft-recited catechism.

I despise giant organized religions. Yet, truely, I consider myself very much a spirtual person. Religious? No. Spiritual, yes.

Sounds like a joke, but seriously ....

There's long been a need for something in between ... that didn't involve grape kool-aid.

Peaches

Again I state that I feel organized religion is completely different than being spiritual. I know many atheists I consider more spiritual than some professed "Christians".

My friend who is from a VERY strong Catholic family had a sister who dated then married a Jew. I asked her father if it bothered him. He said he'd rather the guy be strong in his Jewish beliefs (which he was) than weak in his Christian beliefs. Makes a lot of sense, IMO.

I think you've grasped onto the feelings of a great many people. Organized religion has turned a great many people off.

Interesting idea, I'm with Peaches as far as the Aethiest/Christian comparison goes... a person's choice to not acknowledge a single higher power, is in no means a denouncement of spirituality... My brain just came up with the theme song for this thing. It's to the tune of "It don't come easy" by Ringo Starr (songs is 30+years old now, should be able to get use rights pretty easy)

for the TV, radio and Billboard spots:
"If you want to build some pews then you got to pay your dues"

Inside the community when you offer incentives for posts etc:

"If you want to build some pews then you gotta get some views"

Last time I checked was a few years back when a friend invited me to sit in on a course on "miracles" at the Unity church here in KC (you talk about a cult....lololol)

Anyway, they went on about how Jesus said this and Jesus said that. I asked why they were attributing this stuff to Jesus when it had originally come from Buddha (or before him for all I really know) and they informed me that Buddha had studied Jesus. They didn't like having the fact that Buddha was here about 600 years earlier then Jesus pointed out to them for some reason.

I don't know why

Brothers and Sisters,

Tithing is worship. It has always been more than just a tax. Tithing is recognition and worship of the One Who created and actually owns all. Worshiping God in a prescribed manner has existed since the Garden of Eden. Cain and Abel knew the correct way to worship God, but one of them chose not to worship that way. The correct way involved giving up something they owned in recognition of God in a prescribed manner. Worship cost them something then, as true worship always does.

If we do not worship God with our money, we do not really worship God. Job, Abraham and his descendants, and others living before the giving of the Law, knew that worshiping God involved sacrificing of their substance.

Any Christian who loves the Lord should desire to give everything to Him. We can and should give more than ten percent (a tithe). Tithing is just a starting place -- not a maximum limit. The tithe is like a birthday gift to a wonderful spouse, just a token reminder of their importance to you. Actually, they deserve much more -- more than it would be possible to give. Jesus is like that. He deserves more than you could possibly give. Tithing is only a reminder to you, and to Jesus, of the intent of your heart, and the place of importance He has in your life.

I think it is a fine and noble idea, myself.

I consider myself to be a spiritual person. I talk to my God most nights. Doing so eases my burdens and helps ground me.

If that makes me something that is subject to ridicule, so be it. I've been ridiculed for many things. ;)

I'm not a holy person either, but overall, I am a good person. In that I mean, I am kind of heart when I can put my fears and such aside. I don't hate people, I try very hard not to take harmful actions against others, and I try to give to those less fortunate than I.

And I really don't do those things because of heaven, karma, or anything of that nature.

I do them because it makes me feel in harmony with my God.

I think there are many Christians...and many more spirtual based non Christians...who would welcome such a thing, Nick.

Best of luck with it :)

For those of you wondering what Jebus looks like, I have uploaded an image. This image was taken outside the barn, where he can usually be found preaching and teaching the other goats that have abandoned their evil ways (head butting and uncontrolled fornication) to follow him in the saintly ways of his father Billy.

He is a righteous dude that knows his place in this world and is at peace with it. He is also available for speaking engagements at your church - fee, travel and accomodations to be covered for Jebus and his handlers (myself and my family of course)
