I don't drink often. (The reason being the amount of medication I'm on.)

When I do drink, the beer I drink is either Dos Equis, or of late, Black and Tan. I like a beer that slaps the heck out of my tastebuds. If I'm only going to have one beer I want it to be a good one, and only with food.

Red wine makes me ill, so I occasionally have a glass of white wine with dinner. I despise Chablis. I like Sauvignon Blanc a lot. The Olive Garden has a house "blush" something or other that I like.

Nice thread, brand0n. Points coming. :)

An actual legit thread from Brand0n! http://oprano.com/msgboard/images/smilies/thud.gif

Hell that gets you 10 points. http://oprano.com/msgboard/images/smilies/ok.gif

Drink? I'm of Irish (and English) decent, so I have no choice in the matter. http://oprano.com/msgboard/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Favorite current beer is Yeungling Lager; if they don't have it stocked, I'd probably go for a Sam Adam. If I'm drinking in a hotter climate, down South, the Islands, I'll do Corona, Dos Equis, Red Stripe.

Drink wine too, usually whites. Pinot Grigio, Riesling, Chardonnay, and the all-purpose Chablis, among others. If I do red (on occasion) it's usually a Pinot Noir or a Merlot.

Can't beat some Bailey's Irish Creme now and again. http://oprano.com/msgboard/images/smilies/smile.gif

Hard liquor .... Usually Rum and Coke. Sometimes Whiskey and Ginger Ale. Shots? Prefer Tequila first, Vodka second, third would be anything liquid. http://oprano.com/msgboard/images/smilies/smile.gif

Now I'm betting I probably sound like a lush.

I don't drink a lot. I have no tolerance. One drink I feel it, 2 I'm silly and by the end of the 3rd, I start molesting furniture. ;)

My tastes for wine run toward the sweet. I love dessert wines and port. The only white I like is riesling.

I don't like beer at all and never touch it. As far as hard liquor, it's Jack and coke or "girly drinks" so I don't taste the alcohol.

And if I am just out to get wasted, it is Tequila or Mezcal with Beer chasers :okthumb:

Timon has been here a long long time. He hasn't posetd much for a while but he is always around. He is a good guy but likes to have fun like the rest of us and being old time Oprano he can not resists the smell of the blood in the water. In other words, if you let it be known that a particular "spot" itches he will be one of the ones (like me and others) to poke and poke and poke at that spot just because :)

So, if you go off about something, you will tend to hear that something over and over again. And the more you react to it, the more you will hear it.

brand0n...I've avoided this, as I am not one to attempt to put out a fire by pouring kerosene on it.

I always do you the honor of spelling your nick correctly, which others do not.
I always respond to you politely, and did not comment when you used your response to a question I'd asked you as a seque into bashing someone else. I was irritated, but I have the magic ability to be silently irritated and thus did not comment. I not only paticipated in this thread, I complimented it and gave you points for it.

My question: why don't you ever speak to me? All of your energy and attention is directed toward those who piss with you. I live in a logical world where people who annoy me get ignored while my attention goes to people that are polite to me.

Please do not interpret this as any sort of "hurt feelings" commentary. My feelings don't come to this or any other board. My feelings are currently on the couch watching the Chargers/Jets game.

My drink of choice is Millstone, Starbucks, and Gevalia.

I currently do not drink alcohol. If that makes me gay, I feel cheated - my girlfriend tells me that I still have no skills whatsoever at accessorizing.

When I drank, I was a big fan of Crown Royal, Murphy's Irish Whiskey, Jim Beam, Jack Daniels, Smirnoff and Stoli, and, of course, Ron Baccardi.

With the exception of Ron, I did not go in for Girly drinks - that is, anything except an occasional ice cube in any of the above.

Also, in the immortal words of Tom T. Hall, I like beer. I used to start the evening off with a good beer (Guiness, Heinekin, Michelob, and too many other options to remember), but after the third or fourth I would switch to Budweiser or Bud Light - a little trick taught to me by people who tasted beer for a living.

I liked a good wine with a meal, but never found it interesting enough to learn more about. I never understood the appeal of scotch or gin, although I may have been influenced by the fact that most people who drank them were pretentious fucks who annoyed the shit out of me. The same holds true of the beer elitists; for every one person I met who truly did prefer the taste of the import of the moment, there were ten of them drinking it merely because they were well-trained consumers attuned to the signs one needed to make in order to meet the contemporary markers of "cool."

While I don't miss drinking much, I do regret that the whole micro-brewery movement took hold after I quit.

After years of having it on the "mean to" list, my husband and I finally joined Gevalia. We got our first package and love the coffee. So far we've had Breakfast Blend - whch was fantastic, Mocha Kaffe (well, I've had it, my husband doesn't even like to be in the same room with it), and my husband is currently in love with Greco. I have their French Roast unopened. I love the fact that they give the "acidity factor" on their coffees.

I drink coffee the way I used to drink ... other things. From the time I get up until the time I go to bed, I have a cup of coffee in front of me.

While the Gevalia regular coffees are good, I don't think they are good enough to warrant the prices they charge. Millstone's Breakfast Blend is almost as good; not sure if I've tried the Greco, and I'm with your husband on the Mocha Kaffe.

The only thing I get from Gevalia currently is the seasonal package, which ships two pounds of a different nationality 4 (maybe 5) times a year.

Our daily coffee is usually Millstone (Foglifter or Columbian, with French Roast and Bed & Breakfast for variety), which we buy in 5-pound bags a 4-5 times a year (not really saving any money on coffee, but I'm not going to the store for coffee every week-10 days, so the $30 worth of coffee doesn't become $80 worth of "stuff"). At the same time I usually order 8-10 pounds of Starbucks.

I also pick up the "house" blends from a couple of coffee houses whenever I'm visiting my daughters, and haven't been to a Dunkin Donuts in five years without picking up a couple of bags of their whole-bean coffee.

We go through a coffee pot in 6-9 months; the freebies from Gevalia generally only last 6 months around here. This last time I bought two - a 12 cup for daytime use, and an 8-cup I switch to after supper.

MorganGrayson
11-06-2005, 04:28 PM
PD...oh, I agree. The Gevalia coffee prices are outrageously high. However, my husband and I are very ritualistic people. We love having "special" things. Since we're both coffee drinkers, having the Gevalia Breakfast Blend reserved for weekend mornings is nice. When I have coffee during the day while I'm alone, it's quite possibly because I have a headache or feel terrible. (Coffee truly helps my headaches.) Therefore, the "just mine" aspect of the Mocha is nice. (I'm a kind person, so I wash the pot and basket of the coffeemaker before my husband has coffee.) He has a miserable "about me" paper to write for his upcoming Religion class, so a cup of the Italian Greco coffee was *most* appreciated last night. It also rather backfired. It made him feel so good he went and watched a movie rather than work on that paper.

I think of "girlie drinks" as being more along the line of Grasshoppers and Brandy Alexanders. (Apologies to the men that drink them. They're downright tasty. A tad *too* tasty, if you know what I mean.)

The only "mixed drink" I ever have is the occasional Marguerita. I love those things. Went to dinner with Nick and his family once and had a Marguerita big enough to take a bath in. Luscious. Capt Morgans is flavored, which makes it somewhat girly to begin with. Adding coke to it merely increases the estrogen level.

Oddly enough, Meyers is about the only Rum I drank straight.

I pretty much treated drinks the same way I did beer - after the third or fourth, if it's mixed the well/bar booze is going to taste as good as call drinks. Shots were a different story, of course.

Scotch :barfon: - I'd rather drink Listerine.

It seems that every coffee maker we've ever had picked a weekday morning to die. There is *nothing* worse than having that ache for the first cup of the day and discovering that the coffee maker is broken.

My Gevalia coffee makers have lasted between 3 - 6 months each.
