Part of me wants them gone, but another part of me says "Hey, this keeps them in one place - easier to keep track of, keep kids away from, etc."

Opinions?

Being a cop, and this is public information, I cannot really say my TRUE opinion.

I thought this was going to be a joke.

Well, obviously as far as I'm concerned they should all get their nuts cut off then let those they assaulted have at them. But apparently "the law" says we can't do that

Since that can't happen, I wouldn't mind if the whole damn hotel was nothing BUT sex offenders. Like a minium security prison. And like shooting fish in a barrel for anyone who wants to have a crack at them ;)

I'm assuming that these are folks who have been tried, convicted, and served their sentences/been released on parole.

The article is pretty vague on the area this hotel is in. It's obviously not too close to where children congregate, because they would have included it in the article to make it even more titillating.

They have to live someplace. Assuming that they are complying with the terms of their release from custody (which undoubtedly include restrictions on how close they can live to schools, malls, etc), I'm not sure I see the issue. I see the ratings appeal - but not the real issue.

I think the real issue is... regardless if they have served their sentences and been released on parole.... Sexual Offenders have a VERY VERY high percent of repeat offenders..

Much higher than any other crime as a matter of fact.. Which in turn means.. There is a VERY high possibility of them molesting, raping.. ect... again.

Until you have either been molested, raped or had it happen to your child or other family member.. I don't think you can truely understand imho.

I meet your qualifications for understanding, a couple of times over.

I understand that most genuine sex offenders have a high rate of offending again. This article mentioned a concentration of sex offenders living in one place. If you check many long term residence hotels/motels, you'll find a high concentration of all kinds of offenders living in one place.

These kinds of stories appear regularly, particularly on television stations, most often during sweeps periods, all across the United States. I have no sympathy for child molesters. I do not want my children or grandchildren living near them.

The fact remains - they gotta live somewhere.

And I think I'd really have them all in one place - where people know they're there and are watching.......

I don't disagree.

Frankly, if you check out those kinds of hotels you're also going to find a high conentration of burglars, robbers, etc. That is a different kind of threat to the community. The likelyhood that those kinds of offenders will go back to committing their particular type of crime in conjunction with their new neighbors is probably higher than sex offenders doing so.

Of course, that won't really do anything for circulation or ratings.

I bet we could do a great S&M reality site in that hotel.

I vote for pulling their pubes out of their balls one at a time with sharp tweezers :D

I'm with Peaches on this one...

Would the public rather try to keep track of 12 sex offenders all living in different places? I think that would be a higher chance of them reoffending, for some reason. I don't know, I'm tired & grouchy right now..

I haven't read the article, as I don't trust them to deliver anything other than hyperbole.

However, with regards to keeping sex offenders in the same place, I doubt it's a very good idea. The rate of recidivism with sex offenders is hellishly high. They can't be cured. Putting them in an atmosphere where they can be open about their predilictions, discuss what they've done and what they'd like to do, and share information on how to proceed is a bad idea. The old saying is that prisons just make better criminals. This hotel sounds like it would create more successful sex offenders.

The only sensible punishment for the highest grading level of sex offender is life without the possibility of parole.

Let me point out that this issue was brought up approx 2 weeks ago and was taken to the media by citizens who tried talking to the owner of the motel and weren't getting the resolution they wanted. Yes, it's sweeps month, but it really was citizens who got all this hyped up and started.

Not to mention I was joking!

And you just talked me into telling how I feel and how strongly I feel about this subject.

I feel that if someone is caught, convicted and sentenced to a sex crime they should have their penis filled with Hydrocloric Acid via syringe, and thats just to get started. Simultaneously another person should be putting hmm fire ants into the ear canals of the person while being scalded with hot water. After all that then throw them into a small lake filled with Piranah.

I'm concerned, voodooman.

That would have a terrible effect on the Piranah.

I vote for castration. Physical, not chemical.

MorganGrayson

Unfortunately, Red, the primary sexual organ is the brain. I doubt that even physical castration would remove the desire to abuse children from these monsters. The only thing that would keep children safe is permanently locking them up.

Personally I think it would be much easier to keep track of them if you cut their fucking arms and legs off. And then perhaps gave them a good kicking.
