I got a pencil lead stuck in my foot today. I pulled it out, but I'm now wondering if I am going to die of lead poisoning.
Should I see a doctor?

i dont think your going to die or anything it might get infected... but before that happens just put some alcohol on it, if you dont have any just spray some perfum on it... its only going to burn for a sec

I've had a piece of pencil lead stuck in the palm of my hand since kindergarten...
So far so good :)
pencils are not actually made from lead. They are made from graphite, so you won't get lead poisoning.
Just clean it, use a little peroxide and you'll be fine.

Me, too! (Actually, I think it was a few grades higher, but I'm not sure.) I've had a blue mark in the palm of my right hand ever since. No problems whatsoever.
Red beat both Dravyk and I to the "don't worry, it's not lead, it's graphite" explanation. They still call them "lead" though.

I use hydrogen peroxide as a face toner every night and have for 15+ years - is that the same thing? Am I going to wake up with my face on the pillow some day??!!

Ok what is that? At least three people now with something stuck in their skin?
Scary thing is ... Morgan, did you say blue?
Goddamned if I haven't been wondering what that think was under my skin for years. Shit I bet you I have the same "condition" as the rest of you!
Who ever thought kindergarten would be so brutal?!

Left thigh, first grade... kid got mad at me and stabbed me with his pencil. It's still there. It's blue. No biggee. :)
Sabby is there any "lead" left in there at all? Being that it's in your foot I'd try to get it pulled out, (unless it's on the top) - otherwise it might make a really bad sore spot when you're walking.

Yeppers. It sure looks blue. I have a small white scar where you can follow the pencil points entrance into my palm. I vividly remember (no good deed goes unpunished) making sure that the pencil point was in my hand as I tickled the kid in front of me with the eraser.
The line moved suddenly and he backed up, driving the pencil into my palm.
Oops.
I opened my hand and the pencil stood up out of my palm. I pulled it out, of course. Thought the whole thing was academically interesting. (I worried about that "lead poisoning" thing, too, until the hoardes of people in my life reassured me that there isn't any lead in so-called lead pencils.)
I've spent a lot of fun years since saying "really? me, too!" as there seems to be a lot of us that are walking around with pencil injuries.

Tut, tut, TE. Don't be like that. How about if our club has an auxillary chapter? "People who once used a pencil"? That way you can play, too, and have snacks and cool pencils.
I'm getting out the Oriental Trading Catalogue and will be ordering way cool pencils for everybody!! :clapping:

Gosh! I can't wait until Mom and Pop let me go out to the soda shop with a boy! I think the really cute guy from the school band that drives a Studebaker wants to ask me! At least, that's what Polly Ann and Carla Sue whispered to me in Mr. Feruson's math class! :)
For trivia freaks: I actually did date a guy in high school who played in the school band and drove a Studebaker. He gave me my first kiss. I was sixteen.

Plotz not. :)
He had hair down to his shoulders, solid denim, boots and a guitar. He just loved old cars. He did, however, induce my mother to use the classic line "there's something at the door for you." :)
This thread has really strayed off topic, yet still remained just swell. :cheer:

LOL.
It was one of those clicky mechanical pencils. It broke open and The leads all spilled into the carpet. I stepped on one. It was still sticking out quite a bit so I was able to pull it out and I think I got it all.
There is still a mark there but it doesnt really hurt very much anymore.
Im glad Im not gonna die from it and I'm glad I didnt go to the doctor. He already thinks I am a hypochonriac. LOL.
Thanks Guys.

I remembered the story in the Victoria Wax Museum about the explorers who tried to find the Northwest Passage by boat through the Northwest Territories.
They ate food from cans soldered with lead. They all went insane and then they died. I got paranoid.
Hmmmm... actually I think you guys are all insane already... so maybe we SHOULD be worried! LOL.
