quiting the business lately with all the shit going on with the government?

You mean going solely mainstream?

Not because of what's going on with the government, but I am looking at several other mainstream forms of income.

It's a toss-up.

Going mainstream or becoming Canadian.

Or both, on some days.

Mainstream does have its opportunities ;)

Either. Quiting entirely and finding something offline, or going FT into mainstream marketing.

I started on my first serious mainstream site today.

what is "mainstream"?

Jace
10-22-2005, 09:15 AM
already have it started...with a few ads in local papers and some heavy duty SEO tweaking, i will be 90% out of adult...not worth the risk for the amount of money anymore for me...i will be keeping the glass toys going, but that is it as of the end of the year

Nickatilynx

Timon , :)

I have said this before , the porn business reminds me of a documentary on Emerald mining in Columbia.

One ot two large corporations sitting at the top of the hill pulling the huge gems out corporately and then a load of poor bastards sifting the mud at the bottom of the hill trying to find the tiny gems left in the sludge.

With discussions over "what shall we do with Oprano" I've realised most of the old school players have gone or moved on to non porn.

When I owned Netpond there were 30 affiliate proggies making $1m a week and maybe 100 programes total.

Now there is prolly 5- 10 making a million a week and 1000 scabbling over the rest.

I am a traffic whore.I deliver traffic to the highest bidder.

For the longest while it has not been worth my while to send traffic to porn.I think most major traffic whores have found more profitable markets to send traffic to than porn.

Porn is left trying to convert TGP skim and general garbage freeloading surfer traffic

is porn dead? No fucking way?

Are profit margins shrinking? Absolutely

A lot of the focus of people who I respect in this business is non porn.

Porn as a business bores me to tears. It is not like it was in 97 when there were new marketing ideas coming out etc etc.

Non porn however excites the crap out of me.

I am a traffic whore who sends to the highest bidder.

Porn does not even come in the top 5 of places I can send traffic to.But if I send traffic to porn it may one day affect5 my ability to send traffic to nonporn.

a valid fear.

ah well I've wittered on enough...but it is interesting seeing from others response that I not alone :)

Would that be like the Androscoggin River? That was close to my house when I lived in Main.

Also..heres another point....

A lot of the people left in adult are getting near the point I believe (whether they actually accept it or not is another matter) where they could probably make more money with a "real" job.

A lot of people left in Porn are still in it because they don't have any other options.

Thankfully I have been making more and more each month doing the porn thing so that I don't need to think about doing a "real job". I've been FT in this business pretty much since I started(6yrs ago). Granted, things haven't been peachy the whole time. I've had my ups and downs, and right now I'm on a really good up track again and this time I don't plan on fucking it up.

However, do to the shit that our lovely government is pulling it's making me think twice about building up a large amount of cash with it, and large to me is probably pocket change for you. But the goal I have/had in mind for adult is 25-30k a month. I could live very well off of that amount of money every month. I was living fucking awesomely well during the period of time I was pulling near 10k a month. Didn't last that long, but when I did it I had no problems, always had "lots" of extra money and things were just generally better.

I'm working my way back up there, but I'm seriously thinking about selling all my adult shit and starting all over again in non-adult.

A question to those of you that's in that area, how profitable is it? I'm sure there is no accurate answer, probably more along the lines of "As profitable as you can make it if you know how" That's the thing, I'll be just starting out in it so I'm wondering if I can set a time frame like with adult. I know with adult if I started from scratch I could be pulling in a livable income within 6 months time. Does the same theory apply to non-adult as well?

Depends very much on what you quantify as mainstream? I have some friends that are making a good income from writing software to making templates for corporates; they appear to be making enough to keep them happy. Most of them started about 8+ months ago

I have given up on being a webmaster and Im focusing on just being a talent now. I can still make a decent income on cam and as long as I do I'll keep doing this and I hope I can do well with my solo site also.

I think I still have a few years left in me. After that I think Im just going to retire and kick my husband's ass out the door and tell him to go get a job. :okthumb:

Product marketing mainly. I know a little about SEO and it's helped my adult sites so I'm thinking if I applied the knowledge to marketing mainstream products I could do well. I heard the payouts are lower, but the conversions are insanely good. Is this true?

I am also developing a non-adult design company that I'm going to try my ass off to get going locally. Lots of places around this town that need sites or they need updated versions of their sites because they all look like someone with Frontpage put them together. In fact, my daughters Krav Maga school site was done in Frontpage by one of the instructors. They told me they had it "professionally" done for a nice amount and it came out so shitty they bought FP and did it over themselves.. lol

Sabby,
My wife also does cam work and she's about to start doing phone sex to. If I do decide to sell my domains at least the money she's making from the cam work will keep us alive until I can build up another income. And hopefully the income from the phone sex will build up nicely as well! :)

Just looked at your site. It's not what I remember, didn't you have a membership site once upon a time back when I was with PLR Radio?

i think the starter of this thread is automatically assuming that everyone is an affiliate of something and selling other peoples shit....

i have not been an active affiliate in years....and don't ever plan on it again...why make a percentage when you can make it all

Yea, why make 50% of $1 million when you can make 100% of $10,000? What kind of reasoning is that?

You have to focus on what you do well.. not try to do it all.

I assume some of you here are affiliates, but not all. New to the board, but I'm very familiar with the reputation of the board for being full of snobs and rich people.

That last sentence is not something I said, it came from someone else. But I can't remember who, it wasn't the first time it was told to me either.

Personally, I feel more at ease here than I do on other boards.. :)

I should have quoted this the first time, there's more I want to add... oops! :hmm:

How do you not become an affiliate? Buy wholesale? Own your own sites and let other affiliates promote? If you do it this way you're still not making it all because you need to pay the affiliates, right?

Where in the first post are you seeing that assumption???
Even if it were accurate, which it isn't, as you said: "I have not been an active affiliate in years" --doesn't mean you weren't one at one point & may have some valuable tips to offer.

Osiris does a LOT more than simply being an affiliate, between he & his wife, they pretty much have every aspect covered...

Yeah we do, but I'm going to narrow it down a LOT. Too much to do and not enough hands to do it.

We're not all rich and snobby, granted there are a few here that have made their millions (some more than once) but I don't think they're snobby, they're just in a better position than most of us. ;)

I did well in adult back in 99/00/01 with relatively little work needed - now it's harder than most full time jobs to achieve that level again. There are many other areas that can be focused on that will bring in the big money and that's where my attention is being focused. :)
