My left ear has been ringing for about a week. I have NEVER had this happen before and I havent been exposed to any loud noise. Has anyone had this happen? I'm thinking about going to the doctor as I have now convinced myself I have a brain tumor or something :)

I've never had it happen without any idea of why. I used to get it a lot when using angle grinders but like I said I knew what had caused it so I never went to the doc.

With you having no idea what has brought it on I would recommend seeing a doctor.

I've had it before - oddly enough when I was anemic. Go to the doctor! Don't you Eskimos get free medical care anyway? ;)

Hope it's nothing big Miss Eve... I would run to a hearing doctor or my physician also .. as soon as I could get in

You really should see a doctor.
There are two types of tinnitus. Vibratory and non-vibratory.

vibratory is caused by loud sounds. Non vibratory can be cause by a lot of different reasons such as a buidup of ear wax, antibiotics or asprin, too much alcohol or caffeine, anemia, blood flow problems and others.

Your best bet is to go have it checked.

I don't know if you smoke, but nicotine makes it worse. Gingko Biloba is supposed to help.

It comes from trying to type while still on coffee cup #1.

Don't you pick on me, or I'll have to punch you right in the knees.

and anyway, look who's talking. Have you read your sentence? :)

I have it permenantly from too many loud concerts and standing too close to speakers while playing loud music....the worst thing for me is to lay in a dark room with no noise...the ringing seems to become icreasingly louder...

As pointed out above, this is probably not vibratory - as that goes away in a day or two. Have you been taking any medication recently? i was prescribed zantac a couple years ago and it gave me really bad tinnitus. It can also be caused by tension in the mandible joint (I have a TMJ problem.. I clench my teeth when I sleep). Caffeine and alocohol are vasoconstrictors so that is why it can get worse when you ingest them - it restricts bloodflow.

It's common. I have it all the time in my left ear. Don't sweat it.

With all due respect to Dr. Enforcer, if this is something new and it's been going on for a week, see a doctor.

Thanks for the advice guys! The reason why Im a little concerned is that I havent had any new medications, loud noises etc. I do drink coffee and soda but not in copius amounts.

Do you use headphones at all when listening to music, watching videos online, etc?

tough decision. ask pornographers advice while they continue updating tranny-fisting-midgets-on-a-leash.com... or see a doctor for a definitive answer. i can see where this might be a tough call.

LOL...

the best one I ever saw was some moron on GFY that got bitten by a snake.

Took pictures of the bite ,posted them , described the snake and asked GFY for advice.

Didn't even think of going to , ohhh , I dunno...a hospital?

LOL

Try white noise. It may help block it out.

That's the most insane thing I've ever heard of. Who the fuck would take the time after a snake bite to go post on a board instead of rushing to a hospital?
Oh, wait. You did say GFY. That explains it.

I had that happen to me once. I HAD been exposed to loud music, so I thought that it probably was related to that.

... turned out it was an ear infection..... that may be your problem also.

ok, I went to the doc yesterday. I have some fluid buildup so they gave me nasal steroids to try and drain it.

My wife Toni suffers with fluid build up. As a hay fever sufferer she often gets a blockage in the Eustachian tube, the nasal spray usually fixes this.

She's also been taught some really weird yawning techniques that force the tube to open, it was either that or have grommets put in and that wasn't an option.

I hope the spray does the trick for you. :)
