"Dear" ????

Refering to bitches as "dear" is considered by some hos as really condescending.

Its my pet bitch at TE. ( besides of course being a total perv.) :)
Same mate...
If talked like that to my wife , or R-n forbid my sister.....he'd get the "cunty eye" from the wife and a quick and relatively painless death from my sister LOL

It's something I picked up in the military and living down south. It just comes out. Bartenders, waitresses, bank tellers, etc. etc.

Then I would make it a point NOT to say it to them!! LOL :)

Don't vacation in the UK lol. It would be a painful time indeed.
The only woman I've ever managed to call "dear" without getting the eye, a slap or both along with a bit of verbal was my Grandmother... but then she was deaf so I don't think that counts. ;)

Point noted. I'll make sure to not utter that if I ever come across the big pond. :okthumb:

So you do say it condenscendly LOL
I don't think it is just a Brit thing.
There are two Canadian here so I just asked them.
There reaction was:
1.) He must be really really old , like in his 60 or 70s , then you just smile and nod
2.) He must be really really dumb
ahahahahahhahahahahahahahhahaha
I said , "he's from WI" and they said .."Oh..I see"

no you don't...thats my point.
By your own lips you say it to shop assistants etc etc...
You say it to "junior women"
You wouldn't call your female Doctor , "dear" or a policewoman , "dear" or a Judge ,"dear"
So it is a term you use solely on women you judge to be your inferior.
I rest my case , m'lord.

Exactly .. normally its something coming from a hen-pecked husband or partner in the UK in response to their partner to keep the peace ..

You're right and you're painting with too broad a brush simultaneously.
First, it is only used by some men to women in a lower position.
Second, it is also used as a term of affection in many places.
It's a matter of intent, but sometimes people forget to ask what the man's intent was before they attempt to chop his testicles free.
I respect the absolute hell out of both Trev and Newton but generally refer to them both, and address them both, as food items. Specific food items, one for each of them. It's done out of extreme affection. I mention all this as an example of the ability to have *both* respect and affection.
Now, the question for the group: am I able to do this *because* I am a woman and in a lot of coversations with both Trev and Newton, they are my superiors? (They know a WHOLE lotta stuff that I do not.)

Since Topbucks are a sponsor and you wish to promote them.
If you are a sponsor with either a button / banner, then you are allowed a 468x60 banner up to a size of 624x80 in the signature space. If not a sponsor then the typical is 3 lines of unaltered text and a 120x60 button.
Banners/buttons for the rotating advertising spaces at the top and bottom of the board, are restricted to 120x60 and 468x60 respectively.

I see what you are trying to say but that's not the case. I certainly don't look at Peaches, CJ, or FunBrunette that way at all. I have great respect for these ladies. They are smart, intelligent, and good at their jobs. I generally use it with women I've gotten to know a little bit. I used to say maam a lot to women. I've gotten PLENTY of evil looks when I've said "Thank you maam" to a woman before.

If they were paid employees who worked for them as affiliate reps, marketing directors, full time on staff graphics designers, coders, etc. etc. I would guess so. Sig whores, those that serve no function other than having a sig fpor promoting the program, are different though.

That works too! Even better then because the sponsor gets more exposure. :okthumb:

To be honest, cupcake, *had* you addressed me as "dear," it would not have registered with me as being anything other than an endearment. I lived in Kentucky for 15 years, where "dear," "honey," etc., are used by both men and women. I've never particularly liked "dearie," but more than a few waitresses have approached me with a friendly smile and said "what can I get for ya, dearie?" No offense taken as none was meant.
You, my good sir, are the consummate gentleman.
OK. In Britain, "dear" is bad.
*sigh*
And I still can't get anyone to explain to me why "fanny" moved.
Learning to speak British is a bitch. :)

yes there are... for the last 10 years of her life, my mother's term of endearment for me was "shithead'
she was crushed when there was that run on domains with the word "shit" in it, and shithead.com had been taken...
